Craig Murray is an antisemitic shit who has been wrong about almost every issue of any consequence for donkey's years. I hope Kate Hollern hands out a severe beating to him (at the polls, not physically).

I would hope he gets a result very similar to last time he stood here: perhaps this time he can fall even more agonisingly short than 8 votes away from his deposit? Though knowing what he's like he'd probably order endless recounts or claim the whole thing's a stitch up...

Who are those people? Left-wing MP's - are they not anti-Semitic but also opposed to Israel?

As you well know Mike, I don't regard every anti-Zionist as automatically an anti-Semite. I have some good friends who identify as the former but absolutely aren't the latter. However whether they are actually truly anti-Zionists is open to question. Craig Murray is antisemitic and has shown it in a number of ways. Other anti-Zionists aren't necessarily. It isn't easy to be anti-Zionist and not antisemitic, but it is certainly possible. It is incredibly easy, on the other hand, to criticise Israel and not be antisemitic. But you knew all that really.

I really don't know about Craig Murray - in what ways display antisemitism? I feel that anti-semitism is not clear. Looking at say Ken Loach - what is different re: anti-semitism?

This is a topic I’ve obviously admitted a selfish interest in on here before but I’ve found Murray’s involvement in campaigning for Scottish independence extremely irritating on the basis that it all seems to be about damaging the British state
I’m aware of him having connections to Scotland through his father and attending the University of Dundee but the whole thing seemed very sudden and opportunistic when independence became a big thing after the 2011 Scottish election

Having seen my former home of Rochdale fall for the wiles of one "White Saviour" from Scotland, I was hoping that the self-deluding narcissism of Mr Murray would lead him to think he could defeat Sir Lindsay Hoyle, but even my hard-left, anti-Starmer, Uncle Martin, a Chorley elector, is voting for the Speaker. So he will seek to disrupt the race relations of Blackburn, my home of the past 11 years. Given that one of my churches has been 3 times targeted by vandals recently (since the heat of the Gaza conflict has heightened), much to the horror of most of the local Muslim community (many of whom have told me they are convinced it is being done local radicalised Muslim youths), I think his malicious self-interest will do nothing but seek to make things worse. If the Workers' Party are so keen to support local communities, why not choose somebody from the local community? Also, when did he join the party, as he was considering standing for Alba a short while ago, whose views are not exactly those of the Workers' Party, whose leader is rabidly anti-Scots Independence?

Murray stood for an independent candidate, opposing Straw and the anti-Iraq war. I suppose Blackburn, in 2005, will have a anti-Israel candidate.

I know that he stood here before, but he has no connection with the town - he had personal animus towards Jack Straw, nothing to do with Kate Hollern, who is an actual Scot who came down here as a young woman, and is representative of a very large minority Scots population here.

That's appalling. How dare he call an entire people lickspittles from the comfort of his nice home in Britain. Not just a buffoon, but an antisemitic one at that.

Interesting how the Conservative share in Blackburn has gone down in the last 2 elections, whereas in nearby Burnley, the Tory share increased 27% during the same period.
