Just received, from a parishioner on Audley Range, the Labour and WP election leaflets she had put through her door. Kate Hollern's is all about local and national issues. Craig Murray's is all about Gaza, the lady who gave them to me asked "How does he expect the votes of people who are worried about local issues with this sort of pamphlet?" Well, he doesn't expect to. We have received nothing from him on Highercroft, nor do I expect that we will. www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2024/06/our-current-campaign-leaflet/Presume this is said leaflet

I posted this message to his account: Craig, you say nothing about the dangerous driving on Audley Range, the anti-social behaviour on the estates, the local vandalism on the local surgery and the appalling burglary and vandalism in St. Joseph's Church, the drug situation, the funding crisis for schools, the nightmare at the RBH, the closure of banks and large retailers in the town centre. It is all about Gaza. Yes, what is happening in Gaza is dreadful and horrendous, but we need more council funding from the central government, action on fly-tipping, help for our elderly, more grant-aid funding for local charities helping to feed children during the holidays, support for foodbanks. Basically, some action on the cost of living. Why is none of this important to you in one of the poorest constituencies of the United Kingdom?

Just looked at the 60 odd comments on his site under his pamphlet - none of them from Blackburn, all totally lacking in any idea of common sense.

That's what he says and why he is a candidate. I don't think its a problem. Clearly the votes exists about a niche issue - but whether those votes will help Murray, or the independent, I don't know. Choosing Blackburn - seems odd!

Choosing Blackburn - seems odd! He stood here in 2005 against Jack Straw, and didn't do well. He is standing here because of the large Muslim population when this town doesn't need division as it was one of the most segregated places around. It is starting to slowly change, but this sort of campaign aimed solely at the Muslim community doesn't help.

If Craig Murray says he has agreed to a coin toss, what is the decision about? Who is the other half of the coin? He was being a bit cryptic.

Isn't a coin toss gambling and therefore haraam?

It's not obvious from the blog post, but that was partly why I put the "sic". I also can't see any sign that Adnan Hussain has actually agreed to this offer...

According to his blog, "whether I or local independent candidate Adnan Hussain should stand in BLackburn" (sic). Does he genuinely not know that his name cannot now be removed from the ballot paper? My interpretation of the situation is that he is so big-headed and pompous and self-important that he is assuming that all the voters are avidly and conscientiously paying close attention to his every word, and are all actively willing to engage with his proposed scheme for tactical voting.

Tiger Patel has “stepped down” and has endorsed Craig Murray and has asked adnan Hussain for to do the same. ( of course his name will still be on the ballot…)

Tiger realises he is getting no support; he does not sit with the other Independents, so was never going to back Mr Hussain.

I feel these are the sorts of stories that should get bigger coverage. What a strange old election happening here.
