Seems, that Harper has been the total exception from Canada's IronLaw, that only a French can gain Quebec and thus the PrimeMinistry.

I've just noticed, that Sherbrooke, which was Jean Charest's riding as PC leader, and which was carried by the PLQ last year, was held relatively comfortably by the NDP this time.

Charest largely won it on a personal vote - certainly in the 1993 election when he had just lost the contest for PC leader to Kim Campbell.

A good result for Pierre-Luc Dusseault, who was the youngest Federal MP in history when he won it in 2011. Also in interesting Quebec result news, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, the monolingual Anglophone who famously was on holiday in Vegas during her successful 2011 campaign, also held on to her Berthier-Maskinonge riding with an increased majority.

The difference between Charest and Clark was very noticeable - I suspect Charest's charisma (especially against Manning) is a large part of why the PCs experienced a modest revival in 1997 before it became clear they had become spoilers.
