Still no government formed. It looks increasingly likely that there will be a second election to try to break the dead lock. The Constitution is clear. They must try until May 2rd, if there is no government by then, elections are automatically called for June 26.

The 25-26 April last round of talks between the King and party leaders to clarify whether a final round of government formation talks makes sense seems to have been cut short. It is expected the King later today will inform the Speaker that attempting a third investiture vote is futile, which ends the government formation proces.

Perhaps I should add that preparations for the election have been underway since 12 April. The parties are already campaigning, a dissolution decree has been prepared, Cortes is gearing up for dissolution, and most media and political pundits - and even the King himself - take a new election for granted.
