East Yorkshire UA Willerby and Kirk Ella Conservative died Ward Map 2003 - LD 2,114/1,991/1,972, Con 1,961/1,901/1,753, Ind 578, Lab 313/288 2007 - Con 2,626/2,551/2,550, LD 2,227/2,160/2,115, Lab 259/207/205 2011 - Con 2,300/2,163/2,039, LD 1,476/1,443/1,324, Lab 801/705/682, ED 403/387/318 2012 - LD 5,107, Lab 1,298 Candidates Mick BURCHILL (The Conservative Party candidate) Daniel PALMER (Labour Party Candidate) Robert SKINNER (UK Independence Party (UKIP)) A sad indication of how badly the Lib Dem machine has stalled in East Yorkshire , A seat where they had a councillor in 2010 (not 2012 as it says above) . Quite feasable that the remaining 3 LD's will be picked off next year. If you field candidates then no one can vote for you and there is little chance of picking possible new members. Sad very Sad I presume you mean "If you don't field candidates then no one can vote for you....."

Disregarding the unfortunate circumstances of Val Smith, it's been odd how often Labour councillors have been doing a runner from Oxford City Council of late.
Kirk Ella is, I believe, very popular as a residence amongst the rugby league and association football players of the East Riding.

We had family holidays regularly in Bridlington from when I was about 4 until I was about 13. It would have been even more fun if I had been aware of the local politics as well.

In all the world............................Only you could have said that! A precocious interest in Brid Local Politics defines a man among few.

I have just spoken to the elections department of Huntingdonshire and the reason for St. Neots Primary Park was the death of the sitting Conservative councillor elected in 2011

There's also an unopposed return in Gwynedd. Vacancy in Bowydd & Rhiw (Blaenau Ffestiniog) following resignation of Paul Thomas (PC). Annwen Daniels (PC) the only candidate nominated.

That Midlothian place is more interesting than it's prosaic name might suggest. Just done a nice virtual tour of the area on Google street view and parts of Eskbank look very pleasant indeed. Some other parts of the ward look, er... a bit less pleasant (Easthouses somewhat resembles it's near namesake in Glasgow)

Yep - that pretty well sums it up. Eskbank is very nice, Edinburgh commuter belt. Easthouses and Mayfield are probably among the most deprived parts of Midlothian, then you stretch right out into very rural areas around Pathhead and beyond. An interesting mix.

Its the north end of Blaenau Ffestiniog plus Tanygrisiau. Theoretically very competitive, but all the Labour activists have died of silicosis and the Llais experiment in Ffestiniog ended extremely messily. At some point a new oppositional force - probably some new shade of Local Independent For Local People - will surely arise as Gwynedd county council is about as popular as ebola in the area, but we aren't there yet.

Wonder if its the same Lesley Mallinder who managed to win a seat for the LibDems on South Bucks and Beaconsfield Town Councils for the LibDems - quite an achievement in the bluest of blue areas. Blackbird Leys is somewhat different.... Blackbird Leys, despite its reasonably solid Labour voting down the years, does have a tendency to do its own thing, as the IWCA experiment showed. This will be an easy Labour win, but there is scope for an active left-of-Labour party to do well- the Greens have never really capitalised on it, but I think that's because of a) the popularity of the Smiths and b) the Greens in Oxford tend to be seen as a creature of the university by the locals. It's also the only place where I've found myself blundering on the receiving end of football hooliganism!

That Midlothian place is more interesting than it's prosaic name might suggest. I tried, unsuccessfully, to get the Local Government Boundary Commission to abandon compass point names in Clydesdale where more suitable ones could have been found. I will certainly be trying to do that again in respect of Midlothian, Inverclyde and Clackmannanshire, as well as Clydesdale as we go through this review.

What happens if Laurence Leonard wins? If I lived there I might vote for him, just because.
