Oh look it's the Liberal Democrat candidate.
"And when did you last see your deposit?"

Rumours starting to circulate on Twitter. Labour seems pretty unanimously victorious, Lib Dems expected to be 5th, UKIP and Lib Dems both expected to lose deposit, James Trolland might actually beat the Victims' Final Right candidate...

BBC now saying 10 minutes to declaration - looks like main count is winding down in the background, so this could be accurate.

The Labour candidate is only just arriving at the count now, could be why the ten minutes to declaration thing has run over...

If I were a candidate, agent or official observer at a count I would be alarmed and angry if I found the room where the count is being conducted laid out like this: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-25850599Quite apart from the distance between the observers and the counting staff, and the view being blocked, where are the trays into which the ballot papers are being sorted?

Turnout 34.81%, eligible electorate 57,687. Just over 20,000 votes to count. When i was a candidate I got increasingly annoyed that we were always told that the turnout was ab.cd% out of ef,ghi electorate, and that I always needed to ask specifically what the turnout was as a number and not just as a percentage.

I'll bow to those with superior knowledge of Scottish elections, but aren't a lot counted electronically, which would make boxes surplus and require less scrutiny (merely ensuring every ballot paper is placed in the machine)?

Good timing. I've only just arrived on the internet for today's browsing, and I looked for coverage of the result about 5 minutes ago.

I'll bow to those with superior knowledge of Scottish elections, but aren't a lot counted electronically, ... They are indeed. Electronic or machine voting or counting is an abomination which should be explicitly outlawed in all public elections.

Double figure swing, very nice. Especially since this was one of our less bad results in 2011

Shit.
Well done Scottish Labour. On a dreadful turnout that is an excellent swing. I can only hope our voters stayed at home (lol).
some interesting claims from the Snips about their Indy canvassing...basically leading 41-37.

Pleased we were up both here and in Motherwell. Obviously not from the highest base in the world. LDs - losing to Scottish UKIP isn't something to be proud of.

Electronic or machine voting or counting is an abomination which should be explicitly outlawed in all public elections. Only local council elections are counted electronically, because of the use of STV (technically AV in by-elections), as the use of computers helps when you look at transfers. Holyrood constituency elections are FPTP, so are counted in the traditional way, as of course are Westminster elections. As far as I am aware, there are no plans to count the referendum electronically.

Yes, Derek MacKay was saying last night, when challenged that yes, their canvassers used the wording that is on the ballot paper... which I find hard to believe, as did everyone in the studio.
