The fact that Shaheen stood as an independent proves that she was absolutely not committed to Labour and the party are better off without her. And I would also suspect that Starmer is happier with IDS winning that seat than adding another member of the awkward squad to his backbenches.

No. Not at all. It worked so very well. Wait until too late to select and impose from the centre and totally rain on her parade. Brilliant piece of work. Loved it. Yes, they dragged out the suspension in order to impose Tatler but I guess they didn't calculate Faiza standing and how successful she would be. But she wasn't successful was she? She was an uber-narcissist who thought she would win. But she came third behind Labour as a Lefty Splitter letting the Conservatives hold the seat. She didn't win. She wasn't second. That isn't success. That is being an annoying little spoiler jerk off. Nobody likes them do they?

I'd say the opposite, to me that further begs the question why the party took so long to investigate and suspend her candidacy Sometimes it's more fun to serve up these dishes cold. who had the dish served cold? and who was serving it? IDS?

I think they mean that Labour didn't expect Faiza to peel enough votes away from Labour to literally split the vote in half

I would agree with you, there unfortunately are too few people who do take things on the chin and instead decide they are going stand anyway. Loyalty isn't a trait of many people. And actually even though IDS is a politician I disagree with on many things I think he's more of a elder statesmen figures and pretty harmless now. I think whether we'd prefer loyalty on our benches to Tories and defectors when deselected, our benches would be pretty empty.

After tonight's action in the Commons, would a Faiza Shaheen MP have even still been in the parliamentary party?

I think her independent campaign was better than most expected but nevertheless Labour clearly decided it was worth the risk
They didn’t need the seat for a majority or even to make the majority a more comfortable one, and as I’ve said before while IDS would have been a satisfying scalp for many still due to his association with welfare reform it can’t really be as meaningful when he’s been out of government for so long now

I get the i pression that Faiza Shaheen is so big-headed that she actually thought she would win, not just having the pleasure of enabling the defeat of an opponent in the way that some minor parties would do. Incidentally, when we were at the count we watched a bit of the declaration on the big TV in the side-room; the subtitles were on, and her name came up as “Pfizer”Further proof that some of the people who do the subtitling must be on drugs. What John clearly means is that the common pronunciation of Pfizer to rhyme with Tizer (and therefore also with Faiza) in incorrect, since the former is a German brand while the latter is very much for the consumption of our domestic market only. As for synthetic drugs: no little blue pills needed here when Shaheen did that Newsnight interview.

I just think it’s interesting, for all the extensive media coverage she was just an independent that came third.

I don't mean to come across that way. I just have never noticed it but then I don't watch the BBC. Just seemed like a solution to me
