Wyre their names so confusing? An attempt to district the electorate. See also Rother (E. Sussex) and Rotherham (S. Yorkshire), and Wansbeck (Northumberland) and Wansdyke (Avon) (the former now abolished, the latter now part of BANES).

The only other one that is counting on Friday actually at 2 pm is Eilean Siar - Sgir' Uige Agus Carlabhagh Ward along with the previously mentioned Croydon at 10 am The other ward in Eilean Siar is counting at 10 pm on Thursday whether we get a result remains to be seen as I doubt we have got anybody that lives in South Uist do we?. Also a No description and the two Independents have many followers elsewhere? Sounds fair enough, presumably the same staff (it's not going to be a large team and bringing in outside help would be expensive) involved with both Eilean Siar counts.

Think it maybe they all jump in a boat from South Unist and sail to Uigg

EILEAN SIAR UA- Sgìr’ Ùige agus Carlabhagh (1 nomination for 2 seats) Candidates: BROWN, Sophie Boyd (Independent) CAMERON-LEWIS, Laura Floraidh (SNP) DOBSON, Jamie (Liberal Democrat) EDWARDS, Anne Elizabeth (Green) MacDONALD, Norman Misty (Independent) MacKINNON, Iain Joseph (Independent) MacLEOD, Donald John (Independent) 2022: 1 x Con unopposed. Norman MacDonald was previously a councillor for the old Sgir' Uige agus Ceann a Tuath nan Loch ward, which covered all of this new ward, but didn’t stand in May. He gives an address in Stornoway. Donald MacLeod stood unsuccessfully in An Taobh Siar Agus Nis, where he lives, in May. The other candidates are new – Brown, the SNP and Lib Dem candidates give Uig addresses, the Green a Carloway one (all in this ward). I think Jamie Dobson becomes the first Lib Dem candidate in the Western Isles (at local level) since 2007. Current Council: Ind 20; SNP 6; Con 1; 2 vacancies As far as I can tell Norman Misty Macdonald is not the former councillor for the predecessor ward (that was Norman Alexander Macdonald), nor was he the other Norman Macdonald who fought the predecessor ward in 2012 (that was Norman Puss Macdonald), nor is he the other Norman Macdonald who was elected unopposed this year in Sgire an Rubha ward (that was Norrie Tomsh Macdonald). Just to make things even more confusing, as far as I can tell Donald John Macleod is not the Donald Macleod who is a former councillor for the predecessor ward (that was Donald Cudig Macleod).

The two wards are well over 100 miles and two ferry crossings apart, so unless the council have chartered a plane I'll be amazed if it's the same team doing both. Barra/Vatersay is a fairly compact ward, Uig/Carloway isn't.

Just to make things even more confusing, as far as I can tell Donald John Macleod is not the Donald Macleod who is a former councillor for the predecessor ward (that was Donald Cudig Macleod). And presumably neither are to be confused with legendary Radio Three presenter Donald Macleod.

Mea Culpa! I must have got confused with all the Norman MacDonalds kicking around. I was right about Donald MacLeod though standing in his home ward in May...

I have a book describing all the early bus operators in the Western Isles. Serious respect to those who compiled the book! Makes sorting the "Jones of Wales" operators a breeze!

South Croydon ward: I predict:
Conservative 1,300 (45%) Labour 700 (24%) Lib Dem 500 (17%) Pelling 170 (6%) Green 170 (6%) UKIP 40 (1.3%) Samuel 20 (0.7%) turnout 2,900 (23%) electorate c.12,465
caveat: polling station votes are often substantially different from postal votes. If the polling-station votes were in the same proportions for the parties as the postal votes, it would be approximately Con 50% Lab 20% 15%.
If the polling-station votes are in different proportions from the postal votes, allow for the possibility that: (a) it might be close between Con and Lab (but not to the extent of Labour actually winning), or (b) it might be close for 2nd/3rd place between Labour and Lib Dem (possibly even to the extent that Lib Dem might be in 2nd place, ahead of Labour) (c) but not both (a) and (b).
Likely to be close between Pelling and Green for 4th/5th place (perhaps about 6% or 7% each). Likely to be close between UKIP in 6th place and Samuel in 7th place (but only 1%-2% and 0%-1% respectively).
turnouts in the 6 polling stations were: SNC1 up to 5pm: 88 SNC2 up to 5pm: 127 SNC3 up to 4pm: 172 SNC4 up to 5pm: 194 SNC5 up to 4pm: 142 SNC6 up to 4pm: 156 turnout of postal votes was 1,013 up to 8pm today.
The turnout up to 5pm is usually about half of the total turnout up to 10pm (not counting postal votes), so that suggests a total turnout of perhaps about 2,900.
P.S. I have been laughing at the people predicting a Labour win, or substantial percentages for Mark Samuel.

So presumably you had a huge bet on the tories winning with Smarkets?

No, because I don't do betting, and because it would have been an abuse of privileged information What information would you have that would stop you placing a bet? You have no idea what the result is. You can speculate as much as the next person can.
