Congratulations indeed to both andrewp and hempie for their respective victories. I seem to be firmly stuck propping up the middle. And as for Robert Waller , he can start trying again now ( Do I hear the famous cry of Jimmy Connors?)

Congratulations to andrewp and hempie.
6th is fairly respectable for a first month back after a long absence. I'll take that.

Will add my congrats to hempie and andrewpMuch better month for me generally, though this week was a bit rubbish with the exception of my prediction for Eccles (saving any embarrassment).

Thanks for the congratulations. As yellowperil says, I’m sure Robert will be back next month 😀
Also well done to Hempie for the weekly win, and for being one of only 2 to predict a Conservative win in Nottingham, which I suspect a few of us considered and then didn’t go through with.

And as for Robert Waller , he can start trying again now ( Do I hear the famous cry of Jimmy Connors?) I would just like to deny that I wasn't trying in September, as that would detract from the achievement of all those who finished above me! It is true that I have been a little distracted, as I retired from school teaching at the end of August, and have been very busy setting up as a private tutor (pleased to say that this has brought a lot of 'business' so far), but I did spend nearly as much time as usual on the predictions. I just made a series of bad calls that seemed plausible to me at the time. However I think the main point is the quality of all the other competitors, whose judgment was superior to mine, and who spotted quite a few things about the variegated local patterns that I did not. I am very pleased to see the prediction competition in such a healthy state, with so many contestants doing so well. Oh, and I still don't get the Jimmy Connors reference ...

I seem to remember a match against McEnroe in which JC was being absolutely flattened which produced an anguished cry of I am trying for..expletive deleted. Bit hazy about it myself and couldn't find it online - hoped one of the many people on here who know more about everything than Google would come up with it, but nobody has yet picked it up.
