I expect it'd be healthier for the Labour Party in the long run if they refuse to stoop to ethnic pandering, even if it would be to their electoral benefit in some individual seats. Picking a minority candidate for a significantly minority seat does not, in itself, amount to "ethnic pandering".

Apparently their latest effort shows Sunak's approval falling to its lowest ever level.

Some are now mocking Labour "sources" for conceding defeat yesterday - but they clearly had an idea of how well Yakoob had done (something the polls failed to fully pick up btw) and their thus presuming it would be very hard if not impossible for Parker to win made total sense.
Andy Street seems to have reacted to defeat rather better than Susan Hall too, even if it must be much more agonising for him on both a personal and electoral level.

Lab win but I think the LDs could compete with a Lab govt. Well, they will need to actually stand a candidate to do that

Rather a lot of rejected votes there, no? How does that compare to these PCC elections more generally??

Clean sweep for Labour there, unlike the East Mids mayoral election when Bradley carried Newark/Sherwood.

I doubt if he stands again in 2028, and either way the Tories will almost certainly still need to find a decent candidate to win.

I do think such stuff is a much more minor part of his make up than you make out - but then again I would say that (maybe worth noting that some of the nuttier red-brown/Islamist elements often refer to Khan as a "Zionist" though)

In a funny way, this election was a bit like the 2019 GE but with the parties reversed. However passionately committed and vocal a minority is, as long as they are a MINORITY they will rarely win elections. And just as then, the sheer outlandishness (if not outright repulsiveness) of Hall was enough to drag some otherwise apathetic or disillusioned voters to the polling booth to cast the most effective vote against.
Khan's shortcomings have been well rehearsed, but there is at least a good chance he will soon be able to work with a government who won't be trying to undermine him at every turn. Let's see how he gets on in that scenario.

THat's a pretty good third place for the Greens they are last I think he meant in the whole authority, not just Barnsley.

It never was anyway, and as I said a few days ago the original didn't stop Thatcher being dumped just six months later.
I still think Sunak survives until the GE now, nonetheless (and Street hasn't actually lost yet)

Labour got 43% last time, would have been elected on the first ballot under the old SV system now.

Ribble Valley, St Marys (2027). [Unknown] (Liberal Democrat) has ceased to be a councillor. Do we know who it is yet?

One of those two gains - in Wandsworth - was actually mainly down to a local issue (planning)
That leaves the St Helier result, which was so bizarrely bad for Labour that I can't begin to explain it. Did they actually do any campaigning at all?

Though does Houchen not even wearing a Tory rosette to the declaration count as part of the "Boris agenda"? Both he and Street de facto campaigned as independents - that is obviously going to be hard for even the most distinctive Tory hopefuls to pull off at a GE. Boris the Mayor ran on a similar independent Conservative ticket. But still with a bit more emphasis on the "Conservative" bit.

Netanyahu will hopefully be out of office, if not in jail, quite soon. I'm not under any illusions that any likely successor will be massively better but they might just provide that "inch of difference" that helps many of the rest of us to breathe.

As said by me in another thread, how long do most Muslim voters stay angry with Labour once Gaza is over?
They generally came back from defecting over Iraq, after all.
