Lab gain Caversham Heights from Con Lab gain Emmer Green from Con by 113 votesGreen gain Katesgrove from Lab by 184 votesNo change elsewhere; Greens absolutely dominant in Redlands - 63.6% to Lab's 22.4% Caversham Green is not a Labour gain, as it was already a Labour seat (Cons got the 4 and 1 year terms and Lab the 2 years term in 2022). Those numbers for Redlands are also wrong, they won 54-34. Third: Lab 12, Grn 3 (+1), Con 0 (-1) Council: Lab 32, Grn 8 (+1), Con 4 (-1), LD 3, Ind 1

The Conservative in Eggbuckland must be extremely popular to have only come close to losing given the results elsewhere Which is wierd, given he was a new candidate.

I suspect it may, but nobody is going to launch a petition given the margin. It's a criminal offence regardless It is, but it is unlikely the police will do anything about it, they are extremely reluctant to involve themselves in electoral crimes. See also Conservative Party campaign expenses in the North West, 2015.

How do Labour build back from this? It's reasonably clear that their defectors to Gaza Independents had no commitment to 'socialism', preferring religious adherence. A flag of convenience. Labour's recent model, therefore, seems badly holed. I hope they will junk the Left/Islamist model and try to build back as spokesmen for secularism, free speech , equality before the law and class feeling. Let the islamists form their own party...and let battle be joined on fundamental principles. I suspect though that their former white working class supporters are no longer there. They have literally left the area. So it might not work. But it would be the right thing to do. I can only wish them well. There is a reason why no party is trying to appeal to that demographic and that's aging, death or refusal of the idea of equality.

Most are, but were actually running already close to Labour in last year local elections and Gaza give them the push to take the few hundreds more votes they needed (for exemple, the one in Coldhurst was 172 votes away from a seat last year). The Independent in Failworth W is a former councillor for the Failsworth Independent Party (he founded the party with his wife, who was the chair, until the other councillors decided to get rid of them). Retired cop. The Independent in Royton S is a running-mate of the current Independent councillor (accused by Labour of being behind a local libellious blog and in legal trouble for not declaring interests under the Localism Act). Same thing in Shaw (but without the libel and in trouble for the parish council sending a booklet about them just before the purdah instead).

I wonder when the first council vacancy from last week's elections is going to occur? Don't think it took very long a year ago. Technically, last year, it happened on election night, as a re-elected councillor in Bedford was also elected executive Mayor at the same time, disqualifying him as a councillor.

Also, the last time Labour won in Scartho is 1995.

It's going to take years to become accustomed to these new wards in Maidstone town. Fant was bad enough of an interloper now I don't know where anywhere is. Tovil = South Ringlestone = the west of North Penenden Heath = the east of North and the west of East Senacre = some outlying development that was previously split between Shepway S, Park Wood and Donswood and Otham. Grove Green and Vinters Park = the east of East + built-up areas that were in rural wards The old Heath (in the west) has been split between Allington & Bridge (NW), Fant & Oakwood (SW) and Barming Heath & Teston (barely in Maidstone).

What are the main predecessor wards to Palace Wood and Grove Green & Vitners Park? Palace Wood is basically the parts of Allington and Bridge that didn't go into Allington & Bridge, I think Grove Green & Vitners Park is mainly from the old East ward, with the southern part of Boxley... Palace wood also includes a part of Heath (which was torn in three parts) and Grove Green & Vinters Park also includes a small part of High Street and of Detling & Thurnham (for Boxley and Detling & Thrunham, it makes sense, as these parts of those wards were not rural anymore but part of the Maidstone/Bearstead built-up area).
