If we aren't already past the deadline for vacancies to be published for May 2nd, it's by a hair's breath. So time to start putting our affairs on the 2023-24 thread in order, and to embark on a new voyage of discovery into a General Election year.
Wishing all of us a fascinating mix of by-elections to follow or participate in. Whichever side of the divides we find ourselves on, may this be a year full of impressive gains, happy surprises and sturdy defences for all of us.
Picking up the discussion from the 23-24 thread, I haven't seen a reference to the following definitely being on May 2nd. I'm sure there will be plenty here that will be on May 2nd, so we can cull the list down as it becomes clearer.
Known vacancies expecting a byelection, in an area with no scheduled elections on 2 May (i.e. Scotland): North Ayrshire, Kilwinning (2027). John Glover (Conservative) has died. West Dunbartonshire, Clydebank Central (2027). Craig Edward (Independent, elected as Labour) has resigned.
Known Vacancies expecting a byelection, in an area with other scheduled elections on 2 May:
Bedford, Riverfield (2027). Billy Thompson (Liberal Democrat) has been removed from the list of councillors. Essex, Pitsea (2025). Luke Mackenzie (Conservative) has died. Kensington & Chelsea, Norland (2026). Stuart Graham (Conservative) has resigned. Manchester, Didsbury East (2027). James Wilson (Labour) has resigned. North Lincolnshire, Brumby (2027). Steve Swift (Labour) has died. North Lincolnshire, Axholme North (2027). John Briggs (Conservative) has died.
Sheffield, Firth Park (2026). Abtisam Mohamed (Labour) has resigned.
Wakefield, Normanton (2026). Isabel Owen (Labour) has resigned. Warwick, Leamington Clarendon (2027). Katie Hunt (Labour) has resigned
Known vacancies definitely not on May 2nd: City of London, Farringdon Within (2025). Graeme Doshi Smith (No description) has been removed from the list of councillors.

The local Tories in RBKC have been out campaigning in Norland with leaflets saying polling day is 2 May, which seems good enough for me. RBKC is often slow at putting information out itself.

What have you been smoking to make you think hairs can breathe? Maybe it's a hare's breath? All night trying to find the witty comeback, came up with that one, and got beaten to it. Bah! You snooze, you lose..... Happy to take that Tory leaflet as the source in Kensington and Chelsea - many updates here aren't sourced and they are rarely wrong. Basildon elections office has confirmed that they have not yet received a request for the Pitsea by-election.
I cannot find Notices of Election for Bedford (Riverfield) and Kensington and Chelsea (Norfield). Are we sure that these by-elections are going ahead on 2 May? Can anyone provide a link to these Notices of Election?

I suspect RBKC "publishes" by sticking a notice up in reception and aren't fast with the website:

Sadly relevant for this thread: Very sad news, I knew Cllr. Paula Spencer, St. Oswald's ward, Bootle, Sefton. She died yesterday.
