Only speculative but given the seriousness this is probably the right thread.
Private Eye have carried articles today featuring Jonathan Nunn, leader of West Northants Council. Alleges serious domestic violence to both first and second wives. Lib Dem and Labour groups have called on him to resign - no statement from majority Tory group as of yet.

Melton, Wymondham (2027). Malise Graham (Conservative) has been removed from the list of councillors. First elected in 1987, group leader and former council leader; his son is also a cllr. (In 2013, he was quoted as saying "Nothing much really goes on here apart from pork pies and Stilton cheese".)

The Leics one has a (disused) tower mill with several shop units associated and, in the village, a good pub.

Conservative Councillors had been starting to go public withdrawing support so he had probably run out of road.
