Technically, last year, it happened on election night, as a re-elected councillor in Bedford was also elected executive Mayor at the same time, disqualifying him as a councillor.

Doesn't Québec have a neat way around that? A running mate to act as a replacement in case the candidate elected in a ward is also chosen as mayor, whose name also appears on the ballot paper??

Indeed it will.

Unusually, this countermanded election has led to a delay in the appointment of the Lord Mayor. Cllr Mutton, who is up for re-election is the current Deputy Lord Mayor, and so the Mayor-making ceremony has been delayed in order to allow her to be Lord Mayor in the year she was expecting to be, assuming that she is re-elected.
