I fear this could be a more likely loss for Labour than Copeland. The Tory-UKIP vote was equally split in 2015, so a shift in votes from one to the other plus peeling off some who voted Labour in 2015 could result in a gain for one of them.

Any rat jumps a sinking ship as Tristram Hunt resigns to become Director of the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Any reason why?

With the exception of 1931, a seat which has been held by Labour since 1922. Even in 1931 it was only won by the Conservative because the Socialist vote was split between the Labour candidate and Sir Oswald Mosley

Isn't this seat due to be abolished?

Renamed to Stoke South, rather.

According to the initial boundary proposals, neilm, yes. However, when the final proposals come through for boundary changes, Stone is more likely to be abolished in the context of Staffordshire, just as it was in the aborted 2013 review.

I feel so sorry for the people of Stoke on Trent. They are about to be snowed under with pointless leaflets and get door knocked relentlessly by people they wouldn't ordinarily want to talk to. It could be worse for them. The Lib Dems could be competitive there, which would quintuple the pointless tat through their letterboxes!

Labour may be better off without an MP who believes it is OK to cross an authorised picket. I hold him in contempt for that.

Lib Dems did come second here in 2005 and 2010, so i'm not sure how hard they'll go for this one. I'm sure there will be plenty of (mis)information for the electorate to read regardless!

I would expect Labour to hold this. Possible this by election will take place before Copeland depending on when Hunt resigns.

Renamed to Stoke South, rather. That only arises if the Boundary Changes are approved in October 2018.
