Notice of election sets polling day as 16 June. So lucky Tooting voters get to go to the polls twice in successive weeks for the byelection and the EU referendum. Have you a link? I can't see it on the Wandsworth Council website. Cheers.

Presumably there'll also be a by-election over the summer in Furzedown for Leonie Cooper's seat? And probably a by-election in Bedford ward too.

Presumably there'll also be a by-election over the summer in Furzedown for Leonie Cooper's seat? Not necessarily. London Assembly members who are councillors have sometimes held on to their council seats - particularly on the Conservative side. Brian Coleman was in the Barnet cabinet while he was on the London Assembly. Richard Barnes retained his seat on Hillingdon. Labour AMs tend to stand down at the next council election rather than immediately.

Certain Flo Eshalomi in Lambeth has indicated that she won't "cause the council the unneccessary expense of a by-election" and will stay until her term of office ends.

The former Green AM Darren Johnson also served simultaneously on LB Lewisham 2002-14, as did Jenny Jones on Southwark 2006-10. And IIRC Sadiq remained a Tooting councillor for a year after becoming MP. An assembly by-election would be an interesting spectacle, but almost certainly only ever prompted by death or scandal as no one would voluntarily seek to incur the expense.

Christian Woolmar has not been long listed. Which is odd, considering he was short listed for London Mayor less than 12 months ago.

If polling day for this by-election is 16th June, that puts the deadline for receipt of nominations for candidates wishing to stand as early as 24th May, I believe.

I don't get the reference. That's a reference to this story www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2272231/A-hands-Thats-Socialist-Workers-Party-cleared-comrade-rape.htmlabout the Socialist Worker's Party dealing with a rape allegation made about one of its senior members by a young activist. The activist didn't report this accusation to the police but instead reported it internally in the SWP. The SWP's handling of this accusation caused scandal that got into the national papers, caused a split in the SWP and conflict between the SWP and other communist groups. The accused was referred to in SWP minuets as 'Comrade Delta' but it was later revealed that this was martin Smith, senior SWP member and the leader of the 'anti-fascist' activist organisation UAF. Smith later quit both the UAF and the SWP. He was not charged with any crime in relation to this accusation. Picking Smith in a seat like Tooting would be total and utter Madness.

If I had to bet I'd go with Rosena Allin-Khan. Labour have selected local councillors in all three by-elections this parliament so she ticks that box. She's a junior doctor in the constituency, which might be a factor given the ongoing dispute, and may drag in some votes from the rarely seen 'she fixed my broken ankle' demographic.

When you grow up in Balham and support Tooting & Mitcham United FC, it's hard to not be aware of Wolfie!
