As a South London-bred Ulsterman

As a South London-bred Ulsterman, I'd like to see the revival of the Steward of the Manor of Kennington, Surrey and the Escheator of Ulster. With the first appointee being the eminently suitable current MP for Vauxhall...?

Will Martindale (ex Battersea candidate) rules himself out.

I always thought that Steward of the manor of Northstead was classier. I much prefer the Chiltern Hundreds (partly because of the play of that name) and I have often thought that if I were an MP, and if I wanted to resign, I would specifically request the Chiltern Hundreds (the normal practice is to take it in turns between the two positions).

UKIP is not a feature here. LDs are weak. The Green party might syphon off some Labour vote? Other than that this is a fairly stolid seat and I would expect a post-Mayoral and mid-term (6-years in) dip with a good solid Labour majority. Choice of candidate could affect the vote but not the result. Tory candidate from GE is still around. Expect Labour candidate will be Fleur Anderson, Wandsworth Cllr. Fleur Anderson put her name forward. I hope she doesn't get it, purely because the thought of fighting this by-election then a local by-election in Bedford (a split ward) is too much to handle.

Writ moved this morning, so polling will be either 9 or 16 June depending on the Returning Officer. 9 June is Day 21 of the timetable, 16 June is Day 26.

Emily Brothers (Sutton and Cheam candidate in 2015, and low ranked Assembly list candidate last week) has announced she has applied for the Labour selection.

Katie Ghose surely has to add this to her collection. Tooting's loss would be the ERS's gain.

Notice of election sets polling day as 16 June. So lucky Tooting voters get to go to the polls twice in successive weeks for the byelection and the EU referendum.

Presumably there'll also be a by-election over the summer in Furzedown for Leonie Cooper's seat?
