I had Sky News on while dozing in bed. I was impressed by the sensitive way that Wandsworth Council and the Mayor conducted the count and declaration. I was not impressed by the boorish behaviour of the supporters of the One Love Party and, to a lesser extent, the OMRLP.

I honestly don't think the Conservatives have done all that badly, considering the party are six years into government - including by post-2010 standards. The swing Labour need for an overall majority, even if no boundary changes were to take place, is about 8.8%. Wandsworth is a polarised borough where swings tend to be low - look at the last few GE results here. And the Tory candidate was widely praised. Actually, this is the best Labour result in Tooting since the 2001 GE. The pathetic score of UKIP was also cheering, the more so given the context.

Cheers and clapping at the OMRLP vote figure; shouted comments including the 'f-word' at the One Love vote figure. Otherwise the declaration was heard in respectful silence.

Watched the part of the declaration that was sown on BBC News, it was a very sombre atmosphere for the most part (which was to be expected). The winning labour candidate's very short statement summed it up very well.

Seriously, that was a symptom of their more general decline. JL had been getting browned off with them as well as more in sympathy with Tory politics.

Does anyone have the date of birth of the new MP for Tooting?

Somewhat surprisingly there appears to be no YouTube video as yet of the full declaration.

JL had been getting browned off with them as well as more in sympathy with Tory politics. No I wasn't. I joined the Conservative Party because I supported it, I supported the Coalition government, and i supported Gavin Barwell MP. Therefore I left the OMRLP. There were no negative reasons pushing me out of the OMRLP, although I am fairly clear that I wouldn't go back to it in the event of my not supporting the Conservative Party any more.

The OMRLP had a role to play which seems to be so far in the past now that it might as well be myth.

One of the members of this group is the mother of the new MP for Tooting although I don't know which:

So, in her maiden speech, the winner advises us that being a mother will make her a better MP. They never learn...

The OMRLP just isn't fun or funny anymore. But, like Punch, it never really was.
