I watched an excellent documentary last night about Lucien Bouchard. Strange to think the all-conquering Bloc has fallen apart so badly.

We can only hope that the same happens to the SNP eventually..... Got to be a strong chance. The SNP strike me as being more Marois and Boisclair than Bouchard and Levesque.

On a related note, PKP gave an interview to Paris-Match the other week. A tiny spelling error made it appear that he wanted to make Quebec City an independent state.

That picture makes him look like a combination of Peter Mandelson and Rick Perry.

He was the widely expected victor. Of course, he's also a union bashing uber capitalist, one of the richest men in Quebec. I'm sure the NDP will be licking their lips after relaunching their provincial party at the start of last year. Bad, bad move by the PQ.

But given that Quebec is clearly left leaning and the NDP very likely to do well there is this utter madness or have the left wing of the Bloc decamped to the NDP - which to be fair was viewed as very Anglo which was the main reason it didn't do well at one time in Quebec

Just like in the UK, some experts have rejigged the 2011 elections onto the new boundaries (and I have turned that data into a spreadsheet) and was wondering if members would like me to post the Conservative, Liberal and NDP battlegrounds?

I certainly would, yes. At the last Canadian election I drew up target lists but I thought it wouldn't be possible this time because of the boundary changes.

They won 59 out of 75 seats in Quebec at the last general election but could do even better this time due to the further collapse of the BQ.

Does anyone have a link to the 2011 results of the new Canadian ridings after boundary changes? The number of seats is increasing from 308 to 338.
I was initially wondering whether notional results had been computed, but of course that's not necessary because the results are counted at the most local level anyway, which means the results in the new constituencies after boundary changes can be known without any calculations having to be made (apart from the straightforward task of adding up the results from each local area that comprises the new constituencies).

Well, NDP led all polls, but one (by a new pollster, with an huge sample size and an huge Conservative lead.). I wouldn't trust current averages until we know if the Mainstreet poll is an huge swing or an outlier.

Unfortunately I've hit the paywall, but the Globe and Mail are carrying a story about the recent increase in NDP-connected jobs. Are the Canadians even worse than the Austrians when it comes to a bit of Proporz?
