I suspect I would find mazuz's politics very uncongenial, but the Netherlands (especially if you add in Belgium and Luxembourg) really have made an enormous contribution to European culture, civilisation and economy. Describing them as a satellite of the Habsburgs is almost exactly the wrong way round - the Habsburgs became a big player when they got hold of the Burgundian inheritance and Spain pretty much ceased to be a major European power when she lost them. Ipso facto I don't see disconnecting from the rest of Europe to be a smart move for the NL, but of course that doesn't necessarily have to involve EU membership.

And, although they certainly didn't abandon religion (indeed adopting quite rigid calvinism) they did pioneer the move away from theocracy in Europe and paved the way for increased trade and independent thought.

Did not intend to return to this place, but I feel like commenting on this as I'm proud of our achievement: I'm an active FvD member, and this was quite the night. It was also just one step. We're going to achieve so much more. Our conservative members may appreciate Thierry's subtitled speech, which was a masterpiece. His Dutch is almost literature. The media are still going berserk over it. They realize that their cordon sanitaire against the PVV has created something much more powerful than the PVV ever was. We're here now, we're a real movement (which the PVV never was), and we're going to bring sanity back to this country. I can't quite imagine Gerald Batten giving a speech invoking Hegel and the anthropology of Easter Island! That was very clear but erudite Dutch. Impressive.

Almost too late to save our civilization, all across the West. The Owl of Minerva is truly only flying out when the sun starts to set. We're nothing like the Five Star Movement, a party running on a completely unclear platform. You wish. We have policies. You won't like them. Just as a point of order: I do not intend to continue this conversation with people like you, who disrespect my country - this is really a politeness issue. But I'm more than happy to discuss recent political developments with decent people who don't act as hostile. As you wish. But you cannot post and expect to be unchallenged. Especially when you make assumptions about those you talk with.

Better that they should be electorally rather than rhetorically diminished. The latter doesn't achieve anything much - esp as you seemed to be taking aim at the Dutch per se.
Here's their last Eurovision winner to cheer us all up. A classic of the genre.

We're here now, we're a real movement (which the PVV never was), and we're going to bring sanity back to this country. I fear you may be correct with the first part of your analysis. Since your party has more than one member, the second comparison with the PVV is quite simply a statement of fact. Anyway, I salute the return of our Dutch correspondent. If we are going to have a perspective of someone with partisan biases, then that is still better than no local insight at all. At least he is open about his partisan views. Those who wish to argue against his cause do themselves a disservice if they feel the need to start by denigrating the nation of the Netherlands itself, and then proceed to misrepresent part of its history. That's the surefire way to scare someone off again. I thought we were better than that.

The greatest and most beautiful civilisation the world has ever known is Britain. So I stopped watching the video at this point as his founding premise is clearly flawed. The Netherlands is a satellite country, first of the Habsburgs, then France, for a time us and now Germany via the EU. Any serious nationalist party is bound to be extremely unimpressive. The greatest and most beautiful civilization the world has ever known is Western civilization, and the Netherlands has had a lot more than its fair share of philosophers, painters, engineers, musicians and the like contributing to it. No one can tell us that a country with our magnificent history, a country that is still a beacon of innovation and ingenuity and entrepreneurship, a country that is the 6th economy of the EU is merely a "satellite state." The Netherlands is currently enslaved by an all too powerful EU but, once we understand how strong we really are and take back control, once we restore confidence in ourselves and stop allowing reds like you (for whom this video was not intended in the first place) to talk down to us, we will rise up once again. Our nationalism, apparently contrary to yours, is not about putting down other nations. It's about lifting up ours, and Western civilization with it. A great Dutch - J.HUIZINGA - described Europe as Odysseus' Penelope: Always beginning from the start. I'd say, this is not untrue, but not the most crucial aspect of Europe. Central for "us" (or let's prefer to say: for our maiores) has been an individualism: The subject not absorbed by the objects as in Asia (what includes partly the Ionic [=semiasiatic] PreSocratics); instead a gnothi seauton a la SOCRATES. But this can be understood in 2 antagonistic ways: Either in the sense of SelfRestraint or in the sense of SelfDeification. The latter had already begun to rise in the decadent late AncientWorld, blocked&braked by Rome and Christianity, but has gained the UpperHand in the last 800 years. It has killed the bodies of millions of Jews&pagans worldwide and the souls of billions. We have taken away from the whole mankind their religions/cultures/traditions and will have thrown them into an unseen animality (a primitive PapuaNegroe has some intelligence&faith&culture; a LaborRat with an "IQ" of 200, for example, hasn't).

St.Eustatius is the Netherlands' Anglesey: The local government of the "ProgressiveLabourP./PLP" and "UnitedPeopl'sCoalition/UPC" was fired in 2018 by DenHaag because of corruption (according to other sources due to a course towards independence). 2019 no regular elections were held, this WednesDay another step to normality should be taken. But what happens often, when You put small entities under pressure?: Election resultes since 1991:

Once more - as in SwitzerLand's small cantons ObWalden&NidWalden last WeekEnd - a sharp deCline in TurnOut is reported (obvious reason).
The parties perform roughly as expected: CDA gets halved, PvdA recovers a little bit; surprisingly D'66 seem to end behind GreenLeft in most UniversityCites (according to ExitPolls).

...and, of course, as expected, the local lists perform excellently, meaning, that NL will be even more fragmented (although those local appearances do usually not go into federal politics).

False first imPression after few small municipalities. With 60% counted, CDA has lost only ~2.5% and will remain above 10% and even the strongest party (what excludes the local lists, which are in sum by far the strongest group now). Decent numbers - apart from GL & PvdA - also for PvdD or Volt.

Summaries of nation&provinces (nota bene: Amsterdam&Eindhoven are only 95% counted):

Technically Provincial elections, but surprisingly massive BBB victory. The turnout was also abnormally high at 57.5%.

Gaining control of the regions should considerably slow the implementation down and perhaps even halt the process.

Tbh, a future right wing government should just tell the courts to fuck off (the policy was forced upon the government by the courts after all). It’s also a reminder why leaving the EU was a good thing.

The collapse of the nationalist right Forum for Democracy is also noteworthy, as is DENK's wipeout and 50PLUS surprisingly losing only half its provincial mandates given the schisms it has undergone.
