I figure I'll sit this one out. I want to focus on enjoying England while I'm down here. I'll figure out where to stand in the next GE later.  Where in Sandwell are you based... it is a varied borough and has some interesting places... and history. I'm right on the edge of Warley Woods. It varies between shitholes and abject shitholes I'd put places in sandwell (and several other northern boroughs like Salford) into three categories. 1. Places that will occasionally switch between councillors of different parties (including labour), or were marginal at any point. 2. Places where a pot plant with a red rosette on would get elected. 3. Places which always elect a councillor other than labour (small number of these, unfortunately). In Sandwell, the number is 0. Incidentally, the Cambridgeshire county council by-election we've been expecting in Wisbech will not now be occurring, because Peter Lagoda only got a 12 month community order. He remains suspended from the UKIP group but hasn't been expelled - he's still down as UKIP on the council website. |

Sarah Riding , Labour councillor for Talbot ward on Blackpool UA has resigned , by elections for this and the other 2 vacancies on the council will be on May 22nd .

Apparently there are some 'disagreements' in the (soon not to be) ruling group at Shire Hall. A friend who is a member of Fenland DC spoke to me earlier (I asked about Cambs CC reverting to committees), my friend didn't elaborate.
Perhaps he just doesn't want the workload. He'll still have a seat on the main joint decision making bodies.

Martin Jenkins, elected as UKIP county councillor for Arrow Valley East division on Worcestershire County Council, has resigned his seat because UKIP are against equal marriage. UKIP now down to one councillor on Worcestershire, when they won four seats less than a year ago. Byelection likely on 22 May. |
