The Bayernpartei stand for what exactly? Are they just a regional group, like a massive residents/ratepayers party? Essentially they are Bavarian nationalists, they aren't quite the fascist/separatist wing of the CSU these days, they have can be quite liberal on some matters, the sort of things UKIP get "liberal" with. Their website is at Bayernpartei Programm but it's VERY blue and white. They look economically illiterate, there's quite a bit of populist spending in there.

Who or what are Die Partei? No it's Die PARTEI. The full title is Partei für Arbeit, Rechtsstaat, Tierschutz, Elitenförderung und basisdemokratische Initiative. May be helpfulImagine if Private Eye back before Hislop had a political party.

A motley bunch towards the end. I quite like the OeDP though. First victory for a far-right candidate on the national stage since the demise of the Socialist Reich Party?

The Pirates are apparrently seeking to join EGP. The FW MEP is apparrently linked to EDP and therefore ALDE.
Any ideas where the others might go?

Yes - there was a ruling to that effect earlier this year. I'm sure it's all upthread somewhere.

I'm surprised that the 5% threshold doesn't apply for European elections (hence the NPD getting a seat). Is this a new thing? It saved the FDP.

If only he'd said cigarette, it could also have been Helmut Schmidt.

What may be of interest is that I understand that Germany is only imposing a 3% Hurdle on the Euro-elections. This might be a lifeline for the FDP and the Pirates. This reply is a wee bit late but the president of the federal court, Andreas Vosskuhle, ruled in Feb 2014 that the 3% entry hurdle violated the constitution as it stopped parties from getting a fair hearing. This ruling came into effect immediately and would apply to the European elections in May.
