I would be surprised if either is alive in 2028. Jimmy surely won't last much longer but his celebration of his 100th birthday is quite a medical miracle as it is.

IMO The Democrats would be better off running with a Governor in 2028. They still govern 23 states, naturally you have pros and cons of your record but you're either popular in your own state or region or not. Whereas Senate or House links you with Congress.

So realistically, Whitmer or Shapiro then?

So realistically, Whitmer or Shapiro then? Beshear? He doesn't govern a swing state. Shapiro and Whitmer do (Pennsylvania, Michigan). It probably won't come down to that, however. But someone from the rust belt might be important. Funnily enough, looking at current projections, 2028 is the last election where Democrats can win the election with the rust belt big three states without winning Arizona, Georgia or Nevada as I understand it. By 2032, there won't be enough Midwest electoral votes to rely on the big three of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. They may look to someone like Mark Kelly or Jon Ossoff in the future, but again, it probably won't come down to which state they're from. None of the last few nominees came from a swing state.

Shame that the American public seems so irrationally averse to electing a female POTUS, or else Gretchen Whitmer would really stand out for the Dems as a 2028 prospect. I don't buy that they are. They just aren't going to vote for a weak candidate, because. Whitmer would be a reasonable choice.

I am surprised that non one has yet mentioned the obvious front runner for the Democratic nomination. Gavin Newsom is almost certain to run and he will be a formidable candidate in the primaries.

The democrats should avoid anyone from California, especially the person running the place. So much free ammunition.

I believe Nancy Pelosi wanted Gavin Newsom instead of Kamala Harris, hence the support from the former Speaker to an open primary. In a final two fingers to those who forced him out, Biden swiftly came out to endorse Harris, thus preventing any democratic vote to determine his successor as nominee.

If we’re talking about Governors, Jared Polis should also be in the running given that Colorado was probably the most successful Democrat State in the election this year. I’m sure there’s a “defund the Polis” joke in there somewhere, but it’s been a long and tiring week.

Just for a bit of fun, if its Gabbard v Whitmer, what do the misogynists do?

Just for a bit of fun, if its Gabbard v Whitmer, what do the misogynists do? Might be wise of the Libertarian Party, or an independent ticket or an even smaller right-wing micro-party, to put up two male candidates in such an instance.
