www.bbc.co.uk/news/election/2024/uk/constituencies/E14001431Penny M had a sizeable personal vote which very nearly saved her (and if Reform didn't stand she would have scrambled home I think). However if my part of Copnor was any guide she had little in the way of activist help. Although her social media feed was busy, I received just the one piece of (well produced) literature- which was a booklet. That was all. She referenced George Madgwick in her concession speech- another clue and fascinating that the Portsmouth "independents" turn out to be not so Independent when it comes to general elections! Reform took a chunk - presumably from the Nelson and Pauslgrove wards, although there is a sizeable vote in Baffins for the party. What happens to this vote going forward? I don't know tbh, a lot will depend on the Tories themselves. The LD vote held up quite well in the circumstances- one saved deposit will be banked and they were first in terms of the electoral address and managed 1 piece of hand delivered literature.
