Wot?? Are they some sort of order of peripatetic midwives? You of all people will be familiar with the episode in the film of Tom Jones where Tom's hapless father fails as a highwayman. From memory: "Stand and deliver!" "What do you think I am, a midwife? Drive on!" Yes Directly based on the Evans line 'a travelling midwife'. Her diction and delivery is sublime. My line would have been better.

A Mordaunt missive has arrived. A multi sided A5 booklet listing "her" achievements. Most of which were driven by the local council.
Anyway it starts with "Portsmouth was shit in 2010 and here is how I have transformed it" followed by health care playing a big role in the next two pages with emphasis going on new facilities in Cosham. The next section is devoted to the general economy with improvements in education (Labour in Wales gets a slating) and brexit gets a mention (life is hugely better than Europe apparently). The penultimate 2 pages are a local election manifesto - potholes, 2500 tree's (sic) planted last year and various investments in local facilities. Finally the back page is devoted to clean water and stopping Aquind - which is now in the hands of the courts.
Very little national - 90% is local.

Compared to Portsmouth S, there's not much sign of an election going on in Portsmouth N. A few 'Vote Amanda Martin' posters, but nothing significant to note.

The Portsmouth Independent Party leader is standing here, I believe. My gut feeling, based on very little except the general disaffection with all the political parties, is that he could do surprisingly well. Whether that harms Labour or the Conservatives more I don't know. No he's not. Announced today that he's backing Mordaunt, mainly because he's not a fan of the Labour candidate apparently. Expect a hefty Reform vote now. Honestly, Penny Mordaunt hanging on would go halfway to making the night. The other half would be an even Conservative/Reform split in Tonbridge and Labour knocking out that French spy Tugendtwat.

Less than 2 weeks now for actual campaigning and barring a single booklet from Mordaunt, there has been little sign of any ground campaign from the Tories.
Mordaunt has released a pretty well produced video featuring Frank Jonas
Although she doesn't add that Frank lost his council seat in Hilsea to the Portsmouth Indies a couple of years ago...strange that..😉.
Amanda Martin has produced one in return:
This features some scenic shots of Baffins pond, a ward currently held by 3 LD's.
Stakeboard wise it is quiet, but my eyebrows did rise a tad when walking through what is usually a solidly Conservative voting part of Hilsea there was an Amanda Martin stakeboard.

Leaflet day here. Election addresses from Labour and Reform plus I bumped into a LD activist delivering literature.

Targeted mailshots from Labour and Reform today. Had a couple of Tory leaflets in the past week. Not aware of receiving any others, but that's possibly due to eager recyclers getting to the post first 😁 No posters to be seen, even along the Havant Road, which is usually a sea of blue.
This *should* be a Labour gain, but it doesn't feel like it's getting the effort/attention that a marginal should. Tories posting positive canvas messages on the local politics FB group (but they would, wouldn't they).

Two missives from the Labour party. One an addressed letter from Rachel Reeves (thanks) telling me she won't raise taxes coinciding with an A5 card which goes after Sunak and his private wealth pretty effectively, contrasting his personal fortune with "bankruptcies are us" which are stalking the nation.

"bankruptcies are us" which are stalking the nation. This seems like a strange line to run with for the future when they're on the verge of a massive majority. Interest rates aren't going down anytime soon, zombie firms are still going under...it's going to resurface within the first year of the new government as a stick to beat them with. Although, checking the stats- Macron has overseen a 35 per cent increase in bankruptcies in the last year, and Scholz 23 per cent, and they are both taking a pasting...so what do I know!

The Royal Mail has a lot to answer for - 3 A5 sized leaflets delivered this morning from the Labour Party with the overarching message of change on all of them. Plus a hand delivered Focus leaflet from the LD candidate for Portsmouth North with a cheeky barchart thrown in for good measure. 👍

It seems to happen a lot

Really odd.
