Luke Akehurst is selected as Labour candidate.
This means, deliciously, he is now standing for a small part of the seat which would-be Corbynite successor Laura Pidcock lost in 2019.

What an awful choice. It’s like we’ve unlearned all the lessons of the past two decades.

The left of the Party won't be happy with that.

A new low.
Would be surprised - nay shocked - if Laura P doesn't stand here

I'd be interested to know if Akehurst has ever even visited Durham.

Why discuss some random post, by some random Twitterer?

Much unlike Starmer and most of the centre/centre-left faction of the PLP, the way that Akehurst behaves is often rather confrontational and unprofessional. Too much of a liability that I don't think he'll be helpful for Starmer despite being being closely aligned policy-wise.

Akehurst is a proper Right-Winger (not right-winger and not centre/centre-left) in a way that Starmer isn't.

Why discuss some random post, by some random Twitterer? It asks the right questions, IMO. The most Interesting part of this is whether Akehurst's selection for this safe seat (with which he has no connections AFAIK) is a political mistake that Labour may regret down the line. I think they just might.

Why discuss some random post, by some random Twitterer? It's a good tweet regardless of whether you may or may not now the author. The most. nteresting part of this is whether Akehurst's selection for this safe seat (with which he has no connections AFAIK) is a political mistake that Labour may regret down the line. I think they just might. They are eventually going to regret loading the NE with Londoners.

Forgive my ignorance but which other Labour candidate in the NE is a Londoner? I’m not talking about Starmer, but Labour over the decades.

Corrupt cronyism is clearly rife in Starmer's party now. In itself that is sufficient reason not to vote Labour.
