It's part of the standard polling day kit. Typically three different ones to use on polling day, 'Good morning', 'Vote Labour today', and 'Time is running out'.

I love that. Is there a time of day when you switch over to "time is running out"? And are you delivering it to people who have already received good mornings and vote todays? If you were, and as a good liberal democrat I never thought to be saying this, you might just possibly be going for overkill on the election leaflet front....

I suppose it depends on your demographic and campaign. We know some people are more likely to vote early. With reading, you already know who has voted so you wouldn't be going back to them

I hate to say it, but we've done exactly the same thing in by-elections with enough people. I've seen plans include FIVE on the day leaflets.

Do you really think there are people who see the first two leaflets on their doormat and can't be bothered, but when the third leaflet arrives they are suddenly inspired to vote?

That sounds like it would make a significant dent in the budget for leaflets during the campaign.

Do you really think there are people who see the first two leaflets on their doormat and can't be bothered, but when the third leaflet arrives they are suddenly inspired to vote? By the time you're on to the Time is Running Out leaflet, it's less about motivation and more about pester power. I've had voters on polling day complain that all the parties have kept knocking on their doors and have had to point out that a) if they don't want that, they probably shouldn't tell multiple parties they're voting for their candidate and b) they can make it all stop if they go vote.

It wasn't necessary for us because my wife and I voted at 8 am and our flatmates didn't bother registering (although I did suggest that they should).

I don’t know whether this is the case within other parties, but some local Labour Parties now regard number-takers as a waste of resources and don’t have them. Therefore some people could be knocked up more than once even having voted, but if someone says they have voted that will be it. I’m old-fashioned and prefer to have number-takers/tellers, who can often be elderly or disabled and thus unable to do more strenuous stuff like knocking up or leafletting. For the 2022 local elections I had badly injured a calf muscle playing cricket - I was just about able to walk again with a stick by polling day - , and as there were no number-takers in the ward I had worked in in Wandsworth (W Putney), I had to content myself by taking numbers in our target ward in Richmond upon Thames, Heathfield, which we comfortably failed to gain.

Verified turnout is 20.69% - 37,289 ballot papers, of which 15,731 were postal votes.

A typical Parliamentary by-election takes of the order of two hours from completing verification to declaration so I'd think between 12:30 and 1 PM.

Labour win with 18,474 votes 10% drop in the Labour vote since 2022 and would've gone to a second round under the old system.

Labour 49.8% (-9.3) Green 24.5% (+7.5) Conservative 13.6% (+0.2) Lib Dem 5.1% (-2) Independent 3.7% TUSC 3.4%
8.4% swing from Labour to Green.
We will now get a by-election in Cazenove ward (Labour - Lib Dem marginal).
