the south side of the Mersey surely. The Bollin in these parts is the modern boundary between Cheshire and Greater Manchester? Curses, I should have known I wouldn't get such an obvious mistake past you lot! Nah, you were just checking people had read down that far, as you knew it would get picked up….

Steve Topping from MEN at count, a single tweet so far :- link Haven't found anything on Trafford council web site. Result to be posted here, perhaps? link I guess Sky news, Radio5Live & BBC news will cover result, but I don't hold out much hope of some background analysis.

How different is the seat to that won by Winston Churchill back in 1970 by 4,000?

Bizarrely, the local radio station, Hits Radio News, seem to be Tweeting from the count (@hitsmcrnews); they’ve already got an interview with Lucy Powell up. As they’re counting at Old Trafford the result could be very late depending on how much Fergietime there is…

Seen a report suggesting turnout could be as low as 22% - don't know how this could affect the percentages (can't imagine it would affect the outcome in any way).

According to Sky News they all having a break - never known that before That's a bit daft. Surely if the turnout is as low as suggested, wouldn't it make more sense to just hurry up and count the votes so everyone can go home?

Surely if the turnout is as low as suggested, wouldn't it make more sense to just hurry up and count the votes so everyone can go home? It might be not an official or scheduled break. - it might just be a bottleneck in the timing of the various kerfuffles. (For example, the 31-hour count for the local elections in Croydon this year included long periods when the ordinary counting staff sat around doing nothing while the supervisors took ages to do their tallying and adding up etc). Or there might be a brief break between the verification stage and the sorting stage. Or Jon Craig might just have misunderstood something that someone said about a break or non-break. In Croydon Central in 2005 there was a break of about 15 minutes in between the main count and each of the three recounts (the recounts themselves took about 1 hour 15 minutes each) and the result was declared at c.7:05am. Obviously in Stretford & Urmston we are not likely to be lucky enough to get the excitement of a recount, unless the Lib Dem, Green or Reform candidate(s) is/are on 4.99%.

Voters ain't botherin' to vote, counters ain't botherin' to count my friend (goes outside to chew on a piece a straw, meanin' just chill y'all forum crew). Be patient, y'all!!
