They all count tonight except Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole which is tomorrow at 10AM As if we need another reason to dispair at that council, not being able to manage an on the night count in an urban area with only the one contest to count is rather poor. Does it really matter? I enjoy waiting for results on an election night but in the end what difference does it make?

The biggest question about Lampeter here in Ceredigion is "Is Dinah Mulholland, a former town councillor who resigned over the issue of a memorial that was denied planning for, as much as a Labour vote magnet as Hag Harris?" and the general opinion I have been getting is "No, nothing like", therefore if I was making an educated guess based on past voting intentions it's a fight between Plaid and the Independent

I note that the Liberal candidate in Eastbourne was a councillor in 1908. Clearly he should be standing in Christchurch which has the record for residents over 85.

Unless he has some previous long-standing connection with the ward, it's difficult to see that helping.

Lampeter result PC 291 LD 268 Lab 160 Ind 18 Plaid gain from Labour Obviously Plaid Cymru will be chuffed with the gain. Strengthens their narrow control of the council. But the LDs must surely be gutted to fall just short with a really good effort.

If the Lib Dems could find a good candidate they might be able to win back the parliamentary seat.

Lampeter result PC 291 LD 268 Lab 160 Ind 18 Plaid gain from Labour Remarkable result for LD. I'm not sure if that's true: local elections in Mid Wales are not like elsewhere, and it's no secret that most of the late Hag Harris's immense personal vote used to plump for them in other elections.

SHROPSHIRE, Bridgnorth West and Tasley - Lab gain from C Lab 887 C 480 LD 176 Grn 45 I thought this would be a gain given where the polls are but the margin is quite something.

This doesn't look like as big as a win as the polls would suggest given it's comparing to 2021. A solid win for sure, but nothing spectacular. I wonder if the postal votes landing a couple of weeks ago spared the Tories a real shellacking?
