It could hardly be a better week for them, given they have only one defence, and that in the valley of the Moles. And half the postals will be pre Pincher too for this week. It will be next week and the week after that will be horrendous in PV heavy areas for the Conservatives.

a lot of people did say he hadn't canvassed, including Jewish News - but I've seen a picture of him having a friendly chat with a dog while out canvassing in his campaign. He did canvass humans too. Yet another case of them playing fast and loose with the truth when it involves Labour members. no, it was an innocent error. The main Jewish News reporter is a Labour Party member, even though you can't always tell it from his reports. Their reports are less inclined to play fast & loose with Labour members than those of the Jewish Chronicle - which, sad to say, really is a rag nowadays. Once it was a newspaper of record within our community.

Nice preview for Milton Keynes. You can see the southern half of the ward I represented immediately to the east of today's ward, up to the River Ouzel - beautiful villages which have been absorbed into the wider city. The Fishermead estate is just as strong as the rest of Woughton for Labour, it really is a perfectly designed ward for them, and will be key to making the new 'Central Milton Keynes' seat competitive at the GE. The only issue is that Sue Smith is described as the chair of Woughton on the Green PC. She is chair of Woughton PC. This might not sound like a big deal but it is. There was a messy divorce back in 2012 when the wealthy residents of Woughton on the Green decided they'd had enough of being in a parish with some of the poorest areas of MK, and felt they were subsidising it and getting little back. They successfully lobbied to form their own parish called "Old Woughton" which is in the ward I represented. While there was huge support in the new parish area, it left a bitter taste in the mouth as it was about a wealthy area not wanting to support the immediate neighbours who were powerless to object. There was then a big campaign to reinforce the split at the 2014 ward boundary review which led to the strangely shaped Campbell Park and Old Woughton ward I represented. Mix them up at your peril! I hope there can be some neighbourly reconciliation in time but I see no prospect of that parish split ever being reversed. Lib Dem candidate Raisa Roy won't do well but is a lovely Ukrainian lady who supported our ward for years. Well, the good news is that Britain Elects have finally got around to giving me write access to the blog, so I have made some corrections to reflect my confusion over the various Woughtons and batman's comments above.

Andrew
You have not mentioned the pronunciation of Woughton in your preview. I believe it is Woofton, but I stand to be corrected by someone local.

perhaps the cause of the by-election in Hackney, as is likely also to be the case tomorrow in Camden, hurt Labour more sharply than expected. Very good Labour results in Hatfield & Worthing.
