My wife got her bundle of leaflets for the north europe 3rd circonscription this week. Until I saw the leaflets I'd completely missed the fact that Marion Marechal is supporting Zemmour rather than her dear aunt. There's also an independent standing for a new presidential majority with Macron, but against the official Macronist incumbent... Is there an official bundle sent to expat voters by the Interior Ministry, with all the leaflets? Like a mayoral election booklet? Yes - I had assumed this was actually what happened throughout France, not just for expats, but maybe not? relique could probably advise... Not all candidates had leaflets in the pack this time, but I'd guess this was because some missed a deadline or didn't bother or something.

All leaflets are distributed by the State if the candidates give them. As they need to print it themselves (and manage to do it within the electoral rules), they sometimes don't have the money to do it.

I've seen a number of oblique references to the French health system being "in crisis" - relique, any thoughts?

I've seen a number of oblique references to the French health system being "in crisis" - relique, any thoughts? It's been that way for quite some time. Before COVID there has been a huge social movement in the hospitals and COVID really didn't change that. The biggest problem is the difficulties to hire as the working conditions are deemed too difficult (with not enough staff or finances to do a proper job) I'm currently trying to predict the 577 constituencies (not with scores for each candidate, though, only the winner). I already did a third.

So that's:
Ensemble (presidential majority): 333 (-39) Left-wing (NUPES + left-wing outside of NUPES): 145 (+78) Right-wing (LR + UDI + a few right-wing): 85 (-39) Far-right (RN + Reconquête): 10 (+1) Regionalist/autonomist (corsica and britanny: they might sit with the greens): 4 (+1)
Inside the left, there are:
56 Insoumis 35 socialists + 22 left-wing including some socialists and some over-seas left that might sit with Insoumis or PCF or Greens 18 communists + a few over-seas left that currently sit with communists 11 Greens + allies 3 PRG
Greens might need 4 to get a grouping, and as they are long time allies to corsican autonomists and britton regionalist, they might do a group together. Socialists could theoretically, in this prediction, have the larger opposition group if they convince the PRG MPs a almost all left-wing elected outside NUPES to get with them.
Mostly, the right-wing LR and UDI would lose out to Ensemble (most constituencies with the right-wing incumbent retiring and some others) some right-wing constituencies, but Ensemble would lose its most left-wing constituencies to the left.

So You have the Macronists & LR far higher and NUPES & RN far lower than the others (generally). But finally You could be right in that assumption.

But honestly, the pollsters are really bad at predicting the seats based on the scores in the first round (they are clearly using very standard transfers variable with no adjustments based on local popularity of the candidates). I would trust them with the global scores (even though, as the candidates are not always the same they need adaptation to be realistic in each constituency ) but not with global seat prediction I think that NUPES and RN candidates will have trouble expanding their base in the second round BUT socialists and communists inside NUPES usually have candidates that are locally well known and appreciated well beyond their political base. So they will have less trouble in the second round. For LR it's quite difficult to predict as, basically, we need to predict how popular an MP or a local candidate is popular to completely overrun Pécresse's score.

In a bizarre turn, JLM appears to be bogged down in a dispute with the crooner Michel Sardou, and is trying to arrange a meeting to clear the air.

interesting article but I think the translation must be not 100% some of the wording looks wrong and I think that's probably less to do with the publication

Not to defend Jeremy Corbyn, but if you’re comfortable with Melenchon’s views on anti-semitism nevermind his political views as a whole, then Corbyn should not put you off voting for his party.

Whilst getting that Corbyn etc have that "internationalist" view.

First results in Polynésie française. All three presidential majority-allies are qualified against NUPES-allies. The regular right-wing candidates are eliminated (including an incumbent MP).
It's gonna be tough for the left-wing independantist incumbent (nupes-supported, he sits with PCF) in the third constituency but not impossible (he's doing slightly better than last time). In the first two constituencies, Tapura-backed candidates (presidential majority) will be easily elected.

Le Figaro have set up a handy page for the results when they arrive. An easy search function but also a list of the most populous settlements for easy access. www.lefigaro.fr/elections/resultats/

I've thought about it but it was put to me that people might not appreciate someone with my accent calling them
