Don't look like we have confirmation till in the morning So we have 4 full results, one rumoured result but no details, and one about which we know nothing. I assume the reason for silence from Faversham is that they are counting today? I don't think we ever established that for sure. Idle lot those folk over in Swale ( are you listening , Pimpernal?)

Not confirmed but report that East Hampshire, Horndean Downs is a Green Party gain from Conservative. If true, they would probably become our most exotically named councillor.

That is a lot of anti Labour votes. And even more anti-LD votes. Most voters obviously hate the LDs!

The corollary of not voting for someone isn't that you hate them. I've never hated any of my political opponents. But then I'm a Liberal.

Anf even more anti-LD votes. Most voters obviously hate the LDs! And even more obviously hate the Conservatives! That is of no relevence at all here, or on this very LD meme of needing an absolute majority to be valid. The clear truth being that in most places everyone dislikes the LDs and the Greens even more. These are just plain facts. Suck in up Malarious!

Hate prompts an inability to think rationally, let alone objectively. But a willingness to look at politics as a rational activity isn't confined to one party, and nor is its opposite, visceral impulses.

HORNDEAN RESULT GREEN. 320 CON. 291 IND. 40 TURNOUT 26.78% Impressive in that area. Helped a lot, no doubt, by the Lib Dems standing aside and the Independent being an ex-UKIP regular, unlikely to take many potential votes away from a Green candidate.

I think when Tony says he's a Liberal I think he was talking about a state of mind, not membership of a political party. There are liberals (up to a point) in most parties and not all LibDems (as some of you like to point out )are always liberals.

Those 40 independent votes were probably crucial in produccing a Green majority o f 29, though

But a willingness to look at politics as a rational activity isn't confined to one party, and nor is its opposite, visceral impulses. Feel better after that? A little, thanks. I feel the need occasionally to speak up for my kind of politics... Of course the divide between the two ways of thinking can be a barrier to understanding. I can recall a discussion with a party colleague about fox hunting. He was entirely unable to discuss the matter in any other terms than his hate for red-coated toffs riding around bullying people and killing animals. And I had a similar inability to grasp why a highly intelligent man should see the subject in such (to me) simplistic terms.
