I have wondered about the dark arts of trying to get the 'right' by-elections scheduled for conference week, but it might be more trouble than its worth.

Hetton would be a great ward to win for the LDs, it's a former pit village with all the social issues that you might associate with that.   It's adherence to Labour through thick and thin when little has been done to ameliorate those issues is inexplicable, so perhaps things could be shaken up.
