Lib Dems have been backed in from 40/1 to 8/1 to win today's Hetton ward by-election. We do have a pretty good record in Sunderland by-elections in recent years, and whilst it isn't always the case, I tend to think if an ex councillor is the candidate, that suggests that the campaign is being fought properly |

We do have a pretty good record in Sunderland by-elections in recent years, and whilst it isn't always the case, I tend to think if an ex councillor is the candidate, that suggests that the campaign is being fought properly We were sixth last time, but I presume that was because it was a pure paper candidacy with our effort being expended elsewhere. |

I have had replies from E Hampshire, Sunderland & W Suffolk that they will count tonight the other councils never bothered to come back to me
