- Aberdeenshire North and Moray East should be Banff and Buchan Coastal
- Lothian East should be East Lothian
- Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey should be Speyside and Nairn
- Inverness, Skye and Wester Ross-shire should be Ross, Skye and Inverness
Would "Inverness-shire" cover the last seat?

- Inverness, Skye and Wester Ross-shire should be Ross, Skye and Inverness
Would "Inverness-shire" cover the last seat? No. This new seat is an awkward fit and most of Inverness-shire is not in it. The massive northern counties pose a problem for the commissioners because of their size. Perthshire, Inverness-shire, Ross and Cromarty, and Sutherland are all huge : And the further north one goes the more stark is the diminishing population density. Ross and Cromarty should be a constituency because of its homogeneity, but it lacks enough voters. It is just urban Inverness that is now tacked on and it is lacking with identity to Ross and Cromarty other than being the major communication, support, administration and shopping area for many at least a few times each year. I agree that the allotted title is cumbersome and should not have an Inverness lead. I don't see the need to name an island even though it is a big one with a fairly large population. Substantially this is Ross-shire with the city of Inverness bolted on, and with a number of west coast offshore islands of which Skye is by far the larger and the better known.

Would "Inverness-shire" cover the last seat? I would prefer to follow historical precedent. It makes things more interesting. - Seats containing Wester Ross have had their name begin with 'Ross' since 1832.
- Seats containing Skye have had 'Skye' in the name since 1983.
- Seats containing Inverness-shire have had 'Inverness' in the name since 1918.
Ross, Skye and Inverness West constituency existed from 1997-2005, and this gives us basis for what should be the name of the new constituency: Ross, Skye and Inverness. This is a much more interesting constituency name than 'Ross and Inverness', even if the latter name is just as valid and shorter. The actual constituency covers most of mainland Inverness-shire and the isle of Skye within Inverness-shire, plus wester Ross-shire. It's sad that the Commission are breaking nearly 200 years of 'Ross' being the first part of a constituency name, but not unexpected.

But equally, Inverness has been the first part of a constituency name since the Act of Union.

If I had my way I would also get rid of boring compass-point names for cities.
Aberdeen North -> Aberdeen Donside Aberdeen South -> Aberdeen Deeside
Edinburgh East -> Edinburgh Portobello
Edinburgh North & Leith -> Edinburgh Forth & Leith Edinburgh South -> Edinburgh Southside Edinburgh South West -> Edinburgh Pentlands
Edinburgh West -> Edinburgh Almond
Glasgow East -> Glasgow Shettleston Glasgow North -> Glasgow Maryhill
Glasgow North East -> Glasgow Provan Glasgow South -> Glasgow Cathcart Glasgow South West -> Glasgow Pollok
Glasgow West -> Glasgow Anniesland

But during that time period Inverness was still the first part of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber (which was the majority of Inverness)

Like those but Edinburgh Almond is just nuts. Edinburgh Corstorphine would seem to be the most obvious name - it is fairly central to the seat, reasonably representative of it as a whole, and somewhere that is at least vaguely known outwith Edinburgh. Probably the only downside would be that it's a bit of a tongue twister!

I'm not sure about "Dundee Central" myself, sure its not the whole city but "Dundee Outer" doesn't appear anywhere

I agree with the naming of the Edinburgh and Glasgow seats but I think North and South for the Aberdeen seats are fine.
Locally, 'Deeside' is associated with a more rural area stretching from Cults to Braemar, not the city (even though Cults / Bieldside / Milltimber / Peterculter are in Aberdeen city council area)

I'd go along with 3 of those Edinburgh suggestions. Southside refers to rather small area just south of the city centre, which is actually in Edinburgh East & Musselburgh, so not sure that works. Either Newington and/or Morningside or possibly Edinburgh Braids. Similarly, the addition of Musselburgh really needs to be acknowledged in the name now for Edinburgh East, not sure Portobello cuts it...

"Paisley North and x" "Paisley South and x" would be much better.

And I think that’s why we’re left with what we’ve got. Those names, especially the Paisley ones are very cumbersome. Paisley North and Renfrew/Paisley South and Johnstone, however, don’t fully describe the constituencies.

They should have also avoided the division of Paisley between two constituencies.

Better that what they have done but, if Paisley could be contained within a single seat, it should be named, 5th largest settlement in Scotland after all.
