No. I'm sure it means glass houses and all that. Except that the Visegrad group, while living in the Tropical House at Kew, have just loaded a stone into the trebuchet and let fly. In the Netherlands the Parliamentary system found the government guilty of abuse of power, and the cabinet duly resigned. Either of those things going to happen in a Visegrad country any time soon? Still, hypocrisy in those governments is the norm. Their argument with Rutte et al is over their unwillingness to toe the EU line. A position that would be entirely justified if they weren't also the biggest net recipients of EU funds. I have wondered what assurances about blind eyes being turned were given by the EU to ensure no veto of the Brexit deal.

41 parties have submitted lists already, more expected soon (several of the larger parties haven't submitted theirs yet).

For political nerds, this is the dream election right now. Not when we get to see the greatest electoral system on the planet in action a few days beforehand!

fwiw the number of lists and of individual candidates running for city council here in Frankfurt (also on the 14th) closely mirrors the Dutch numbers and I can vote for up to 93 of them. Indeed the way the election system is designed I have to vote for at least 31 of them if I don't want to spoil part of my vote... (though I can vote for a list and then all my not otherwise allocated votes will be distributed on the list, this merely saves me the effort of making x's and of thought). Now that is too much choice.

That brings to mind the Legislative Council ballot for the 'South Metropolitan' region of Western Australia next weekend. Voters can either put an X next to the name of their favoured party, or else they have to number all 64 candidates – in order – for their ballot to count.

To the extent that any election with so many parties to choose from can be "boring"......

To the extent that any election with so many parties to choose from can be "boring"...... I saw something on twitter that reminded me it was upcoming, so I eagerly logged on here for all the latest hot gossip and nada... crickets in the wind. Lets hope the Netherlandians remember its happening.

I take it we're expecting a boring election night then? Not at all - there are a ton of new parties, as in non-represented ones, that have had more of a platform than ever, and that seem to be polling well. I am not referring to the sheer amount but the potential of a few.
- Rutte might be sailing in the lead but he's had actually quite a tough campaign. And he benefits from apolitical types who like his general serious demeanour who may not turn out.
- Any psephologist will be interested in how the PVV vs FvD vs JA21 map looks like, or the Volt vs D66 (even though it seems Volt mainly get votes from GL voters).
- There has been some great campaign moments such as "anti-snowflake" Baudet walking off a debate stage for being mocked for his antisemitic views, pretty much everything the Farmers interests party comes up with and of course the fictional Party Against the Citizenry's wonderful videos.
- Who will win the northern islands now that the SGP can't do their weird holiday camps there
