I thought it would be interesting to see who the forum wants to win next week, so here is your chance to cast your vote. Remember, this is who you want to win, not a prediction of who you think will win. If you like, you can explain your choice or add any preferences for down ballot races.
The poll closes at Midnight next Tuesday, i.e. 7pm EST to be in line with the close of the polls in some of the earlier states.

This forum backed Clinton in 2016 and Obama in 2012 by considerable margins, if that helps. |

If I lived in a close state I'd vote for Biden. Else I'd also consider Hawkins or Jorgensen or even someone else on the ballot not called West.

If I was American, I'd be voting for the donkey party candidate for the first time ever. I would have preferred a GOP ticket of Gary Johnson and Bill Weld, but the GOP are a long way from selecting candidates like that.
Ideological posturing aside, I would have voted GOP in every election up to and including 2012, with varying levels of enthusiasm. In 2016 I would have voted third party, and at some point between then and now I would have switched from being a registered Republican.
Though I'd vote GOP for the Senate in Maine.

For my part, I would be voting for Trump. The main reason is in relation to the coronavirus: Trump seems far more reluctant to restrict people's lives and destroy the economy. I clearly have concerns about Trump's quite negative attitutude to the environment (although to be fair this attitude is far more common in the states) and I would therefore probably be picking more eco-friendly candidates in the down ballot races. That would very much depend on the candidate though.

Torn. Despite my frequent ribbing, Joe's alright, it's Kamala and the socialist mob behind her that freak me out. I would vote GOP down ballot, but I'm not sure about Trump. He has his good points and his bad, but he's just such a loathsome character. Jo Jorgensen maybe, but the US Libertarians are a bit batty. I'll think about it.

I'd vote Biden. Most probably a straight Democratic voter dependent on who was down-ticket.
I wouldn't have voted Biden in the primaries, but I am not 100% on who I would have voted for. Probably Bernie, but I am not Bernie bro. I like Pete, but don't think he's experienced enough and am not sure America is ready for a gay president.

What about the Dems as a party? They're a bit nuts. At least the GOP Senate has kept the agenda of the Trump administration mostly sane. Not sure that would happen with a Biden presidency tbh. especially of he has to leave before '24, which isn't an impossibility |

I'm not sure where the idea that Kamala Harris is notably left wing comes from. She's a mainstream Democrat and her history is as a prosecutor.
I can't say I'm very enthralled by either presidential candidate but Trump needs to go.

Whilst I probably wouldn't have voted for Trump in 2016, I had a lot of sympathy for him. I saw him as a largely moderate voice in the Republican Party, and thought that the press was being unfair on him. When he won the election I was hopeful that he would be able shake things up whilst maturing into the role after a year or so. Obviously that was rather foolish of me, and he has in fact been significantly worse than even some of the most hysterical voices from 2016 had predicted. Yes, it's more an anti-Trump vote than a pro-Biden one, but when the president is retweeting conspiracy theories about SEAL Team Six, someone like Biden is the perfect antidote.
All this coincides with a big change in how I view the US generally. In 2016 I was seriously considering emigrating there (although that was influenced in big part by having a Texan girlfriend at the time). Today there's no chance I would move there unless I was being paid a massive salary.

There are a lot of young upper middle class left-liberals who have appropriated the word for their own purposes, but their 'socialism' has about as much in common with the socialist tradition as Pacific cargo-cults do with Christianity.
