Good. Better that they waste their money of visual gestures than doing something useful.

Are UKIP actually going to try hanging around and targetting this seat?

One for the anoraks,
Is Eastleigh now the first part of England to have three successive different Liberal/Alliance/Lib Dem MPs, in modern times? I know there are several parts of Scotland where this is the case. I am not familiar with the boundary changes in Cornwall, or SW London, where it may be a possibility.

There were some electors moved from Cheadle to Hazel Grove at the last review who have been represented by Patsy Calton, Mark Hunter and Andrew Stunell in turn.

Along a similar line, probably been mentioned on here before, Robert Mclennan,Caithness and Sutherland, Won for Labour in 66,70,74a,74b,79, for SDP,83, 87, LibDem, 92 and when the seat changed to Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross in97 he won that for the LibDems.

There is a part of Eastleig South ward which is part of Chandlers Ford Parish. This area was part of the seat first won by David Chidgey at the 1994 by-election but then moved to Romsey in 1997. It did of course then have a Tory MP until 2000 but was then represented by Sandra Gidley until 2010 at which time it was moved back into this seat and represented by Chris Huhne and now Mike Thornton. So not quite four succesive LD MPs, because of the 'aberrant' Mr Colvin, but four LD MPs within the space of less than 20 years

UKIP have a permanent office in Eastleigh by the looks. The showroom which they rented for the b/e now seems yo be open permanently. It might be that we are renting it until the local elections.

It might be that we are renting it until the local elections. It will be interesting to see whether the by-election has any effect on the county election results in Eastleigh constituency, with UKIP taking some momentum into the county contest. I would assume that it will have some impact. How much of one is difficult to say. A lot could depend on how professional we were in collecting and analysing canvassing data.

Will be surprised if the local elections don't see another LibDem clean sweep of wards (even if on a slightly lower share than usual)

On the Scottish areas with 3 successive Liberal etc. MPs, I can think of the following: Orkney & Shetland: Grimond/Wallace/Carmichael Easter Ross: Kennedy/McLennan/Thurso "Inverness West": Johnston/Kennedy/Alexander Edinburgh West: Gorrie/Barrett/Crockart big chunk of The Borders: Steel/Kirkwood/Moore.
