Yeah, Tricky, have a proper rest. BREAKING NEWS: Greater Manchester election results found to be "entirely invalid". Mass byelections to be held in over twenty seats..... You realise that I won't use the virtual smite button on here and that instead I will actually smite you for that. Seriously, don't go outside if it looks a bit cloudy.

I presume people here will be aware of the new Eastleigh MPs maiden question in PMQs today. And I hope there will be cross party agreement he didn't exactly cover himself with glory in his choice of subject matter

I saw it today as I've been off sick. I usually don't watch it. The 'question' was quite amusing. I'll say no more than that

Hmmm, thought one of the resident LibDems might have commented. Or are you all too embarrassed??

If he loses in 2015 I doubt YouGov et al will be offering him a job.

Mike Thornton (Eastleigh) (LD): Does the Prime Minister agree that the results in Eastleigh, where Labour failed to gain anything at all, show that the Leader of the Opposition’s policies are completely without support in the country?
The Prime Minister: I welcome the hon. Gentleman to the House of Commons, and if he asks questions like that, I think he will get along just fine.

New members usually receive sensible advice from older hands that they should get a "feel" for the place before opening their mouths......

You shouldn't be too harsh with him. Maybe the question was passed to him by the Whip office or LD HQ. I usually get the impression that this type of questions are planted (and sometimes, when the attack is longer, the Lab/Tory/LD MP in question read it word by word from the paper they gave him/her)

With combination of him and Maria and O'Farrell was it any wonder UKIP did so well.
Besides, its not even accurate, did he notice who was on the end of the largest fall of the vote in Eastleigh, who has gone backwards most since 2010? The man comes across as a bit of a moron.
The Lib Dems are a funny bunch, often you meet a few articulate, genuine liberals and you think there might be something there, then you meet a Thornton mouthing off about inane drivel like dogshit on the pavements or see some histograms that look like they came straight out of Soviet Propaganda for Dummies and the thought vanishes.

Mr Thornton's next contribution in the House of Commons. will probably be his maiden speech. It is customary to pay tribute to one's predecessor, so in the circumstances it will be a very tricky task.

It shouldn't be. All he has to do is to recognise that "customary" doesn't mean "compulsory".

He made his maiden speech in the economy debate on Monday, about an hour after his predecessor's van departed Southwark Crown Court for HMP Wandsworth.

Although no doubt Dok or Mark Senior will be along soon, praising Thornton for his incisive questioning and razor-sharp debating style! I'm cringeing! That is utterly, utterly pathetic.

"My predecessor - much good work - constituency champion - contribution as a minister - circumstances of his departure a sad reflection on the weakness of human behaviour at times" But he's already done it, so ...............

Ah, didn't realise he'd already done his maiden speech. New MPs occasionally ask one or two questions beforehand and I presumed his question to the PM was his first contribution.
