Did Walesa back either of them?
I think he quite clearly endorsed voting against one of them.
Very interesting article by Onet stating why they think Duda won.
The six things they mention are: - Exceptional mobilisation of Duda`s supporters (Undoubtedly true as I stated in my post before. Right-wing populism really engaged possible PiS voters. Though, arguably, it also engaged more moderate urban voters too). - State TV propaganda against Trzaskowski. - Lack of clear support of Hołownia for Trzaskowski (He's really shown himself to be a bit of a crybaby and damp squib since the first round). - Trzaskowski`s absence at the rigged debate in Końskie town. (Debatable if it hurt him IMO). - Trzaskowski`s absence in Eastern Poland as he didn't go there at all during the campaign while Duda travelled everywhere (There's map in the site to see where they campaigned). - Power of benefits and lower retirement age is still substantial (PiS has increased social programmes dramatically during the last five years which are undoubtedly popular with many).
