Keith Vaz's behaviour as the washing machine salesman might lead to a recall petition. Didn't he get reselected last week?
I doubt a petition would be successful.

Even if a petition succeeded he would win the subsequent by election so long as he was the Labour candidate.

To be honest, the grounds for the sanction are so stupid it should be voted down. Or "six" should be amended to "five" for troll value.

A letter has been written to the next leader of the House of Commons requesting (not mandatory IIRC? Davıd Boothroyd would know) that any time of Vaz' suspension left unspent at dissolution be carried over to the next session should he be elected in it. Assuming it was five months plus, wouldn't this trigger a recall petition again?

The wording of the law leaves a bit of ambiguity. Section 1(4) of the Recall of MPs Act 2015 provides that a recall petition is invoked when, "following on from a report from the Committee on Standards in relation to the MP, the House of Commons orders the suspension of the MP from the service of the House for a specified period of the requisite length". In the event Keith Vaz is elected to the new Parliament, and is then suspended, the suspension would be longer than the threshold for invoking a recall petition. But it could be argued that the first suspension was following the Committee on Standards report, and the second was just a spontanous suspension because the first had ended. Still strongly suspect this is an academic question.

Speculation online that if George Galloway were to stand it would "cost Labour the seat".
That's an interesting way to spell "cost him his deposit".

Can't stand Galloway, but would love him to stand in a watch the world burn sort of way. He's rather entertaining.

It would be a major surprise if Galloway didn't stand if there is a by-election here.

Webbe is appealing and says "I want to assure the people of Leicester East that I will continue to stand up for them in Parliament, fighting on their behalf."
At what point could recall proceedings begin if she fights it?

First Vaz, now Webbe. I swear, is this seat cursed or something? Peter Bruinvels wasn't everyone's cup of tea either, famously volunteering to personally act as executioner in the event of a return of capital punishment. The MP before him Peter Bradley probably annoyed a lot of Labour supporters by defecting to the SDP. You have to go back to Terence Donovan to find an MP for the seat who wasn't controversial in some way.

At what point could recall proceedings begin if she fights it? Only once appeal process had been exhausted. The formal process is triggered by an announcement from the Speaker in the HOC, and the Speaker will only do so once satisfied that the legal processes have concluded.

Furthermore the presiding magistrate warned Ms Webbe she could face a prison sentence-such an event would of course trigger the Recall of MPs Act 2015, and given the controversy over her initial selection a hypothetical recall petition would have no problem reaching the threshold for success.
