There have been cases of councillors leaving their party and getting in a confused mess because they lack a whip to advise them on what they have to do. This may be a similar case. Truly we live in an age of snoflakes. And after all that, it turned out that snow was at the heart of it all.

strange that we have this thread at all as there was no by-election in the constituency.

strange that we have this thread at all as there was no by-election in the constituency. I bet Jared O'Mara is now wishing he had resigned in autumn 2017 as he was apparently intending to.

I make that Labour 10 Liberal/Lib Dem/Whig 8 Conservative 6 UKIP 2 DUP 1 BNP 1 2 Independents or can't find their affiliation and 1 who was at different times Liberal and Conservative. Which one are you counting as BNP? I've no doubt there was plenty of fraudulent conduct within the BNP during the Griffin era, but AFAIK no-one was convicted of such offences? Unless you mean 'Tommy Robinson', who is indeed a convicted fraudster – but to call him 'BNP' would be as misleading as calling John Stonehouse SDP, arguably worse.

I did mean Tommy Robinson, who was BNP at one point.

and John Stonehouse did eventually join the SDP, after he'd done his time.

and John Stonehouse did eventually join the SDP, after he'd done his time. Exactly, that was my point. Stonehouse was also briefly in some sort of 'English Nationalist' party, but it would be misleading to describe him as anything other than Labour in this 'fraudster' list, just as IMHO it's misleading to describe 'Robinson' / Yaxley-Lennon as BNP, since his time in Griffin's party was a 'blink and you'd miss it' affair. Not that I object to tarring Griffin with the fraud label, which in other circumstances would be entirely reasonable.
