Edward Wood (Ind) also stood there in 2011, coming 3rd.Eli Heathfield (Con) came third there in 2015. Gill Moseley (LD) and Nick Winter (Con)also stood there in 2015 (Winter as an Indy) coming second last and last out of 7 candidates. Johnny Back stood for the Greens in Oxenhall and Newent NE in 2015, coming last of 5 in a single seat ward.

The new ward seems to take in most of Newent Central and parts of Oxenhall & Newent NE and Tibberton wards. The two Newent wards were largely Con vs Indy contests, whilst Tibberton was a safe Conservative ward. At county level, Newent division was safely Conservative in 2017.

We're using a perfectly accurate bar chart from an election that took place only a few weeks ago in the area ... and it doesn't show a three way fight, given the Conservatives came 5th!

This is a piece of interwar suburbia to the south east of Raynes Park. Cannon Hill and a common named after it are in the north west of the ward. The eastern boundary of the ward is the St Helier line that links Sutton and Wimbledon; South Merton station is on the ward boundary and in the last available year it was the ninth least used station in London. (Morden South, a short distance to the south east, was the fifth.) Raynes Park and Morden offer better services.

It’s an area of Morden that is better served by bus than rail I have to say. It’s a very similar area to parts of Greenford and Alperton. Looks like interwar Middlesex metroland.

Cannon Hill was in fact won by the Liberal party in a 1975 by-election and became the first Liberal elected to Merton Council. The Conservatives won the ward the following election in 1978 with a reduction of size to a 3 councillors. It was the only ward in Merton that year where the Liberals were in second place.

Think it's fair to say linders was a fine councillor but this really should be returning to Labour if they have ANY chance of getting any traction nationally.
