www.rte.ie/news/elections-2019/results/?app=true#/local/cork-countyLink to Cork County results for example. Sinn Fein won 10 seats there 5 years ago. This time they will not exceed 1. Their seats in Cork East & Cork South Central are looking under severe pressure (Cork North Central less so). Postcript - they won a second seat in Skibbereen - West Cork from 7.1% first preferences.

The mighty Healy Rae election machine.. Lol To outsiders this seems bizarre in a supposedly modern western democracy. Presumably the pork barrel delivers? I’d also assume that the “simple country folk” image conceals sharp minds and even sharper organisation? I recall meeting someone who made me think of this - he ran a large, complex business and wanted some local help. He had a republican background. He tried some “simple soul” stuff with me....

The tag line on Sinn Féin’s election posters was ‘Fighting for You’. I kid you not 🤪
