The first loss of a nationalist majority since 1984. The ERC result is truly terrible. They are not nationalistic enough for a lot of pro-independence voters and are too nationalistic for PSC voters.

Carles Puigdemont himself seems to have done very well out of the pardon and the election.

I've been reading up on Aliança Catala (AC) and they seem like an interesting party ideologically. They're not your usual hard right outfit. They're massively against all forms of immigration to Catalonia, particularly from Islamic countries. But they also want to kick out non-Catalan Spaniards, who they say don't integrate enough.
But they seem to be strongly pro-LGBT causes and strongly pro-choice on the topic of abortion, so they're not what you'd expect from a right wing party from a Catholic country.
Right now they have a tiny pocket of support on the Lleida/Girona border in the Pyrenees foothills where they originated. It will be interesting to see if they can expand further in the future.

The Spanish far right does seem to have quirks. Vox are largely ok with legal immigrants from Latin America ("can be easily integrated") and have had one or two as candidates, but are opposed to Islamic immigration and African immigration (not sure whether that includes Equatorial Guinea.) It's really hard to imagine a British equivalent being ok with immigration from English-speaking Caribbean countries and getting much traction.

It's also interesting to see how AC and Vox differ on non-independence issues too. Vox are very much a traditionalist party who want to roll back to a more culturally Catholic society, which seems antithetical to AC's social policies.

One of Vox's leaders was/is Cuban, and one was Argentine or part Argentine.

Yes, I remember when VOX first broke through I edited the Wiki profile of the Cuban lady and was surprised that an anti-immigration party had someone like that as a leader until I read into it and found that their policy was far more nuanced. WJ is right they want to roll back to a more Catholic society and in a weird way, having more immigration from Latin America, especially anti-Communist exiles, is a help to them.

The Right's gradient from (inner) NW to SE is nothing new. The SW is now also right of Spain as a whole. De facto Castile vs. regionalist/separatist fringes, what will surely end ugly.
