i was mildly curious about why there have been two by-elections in the same ward only two months apart, but a brief search did not find the cause of the first vacancy. Which one resigned first? Jane Edbrooke resigned to take up a politically restricted post with The Big Lottery Fund; she announced her resignation in a Medium blog in December last year. Lib Peck announced her resignation almost a month later. Are there any instances of all three seats in a 3 member ward falling vacant during the 4 year cycle?

I found one: Streatham Hill ward, Lambeth, 1992 & 1993. Page 55 on this: londondatastore-upload.s3.amazonaws.com/docs/LBCBE_1990-5_TO_1994-5.pdfI guess that there are probably several others. I only happened to find that example because I was looking for the results for Milwall, Tower Hamlets, 1990 to 1994, in which there were 2 by-elections in 1992 and 1993 (I had erroneously thought that there was a third).

This is designated a 'sticky thread' and has a little red symbol to indicate it. But what in fact does that cause or stop? I note such threads slip on down the menu. They don't all stay at the top or the bottom of page 1 of the menu. So what does it do?

They stay at the top of the page on their relevant sub-forum so this one does here vote-2012.proboards.com/board/3/local-electionsThey don't do that on the list of recent threads, which is how many of us view this. It would be quite annoying if they did that

Surrey CC by-election on 2nd May looking increasingly interesting. Popular, locally respected independent Nikki Barton looks impressive - both Lib Dems and Greens have stood back, to improve her chances against Conservatives, who are looking worried and just keep putting their feet in it. This was caused when the sitting councillor resigned, after a poor attendance record ("for personal reasons, not in the public domain"). Previously, two Conservative local councillors, for the town and the borough, had been disqualified in the past six months for non-attendance. There is widespread local anger against the Tories, on this and other accoutns.
Activity suggests that they are worried - with good reason.
They arranged a photo shoot with Jeremy Hunt this pm. who posted on Twitter that he was proud to be "campaiging" with local activists. Twitter was not amused - pointing out that his "campaiging" amounted to 15 minutes to arrive, be photographed, and leave, without speaking to a single voter. Another observation was that while they were being photographed, local volunteers a stone's throw away were cleraing litter from a strean - with neither help or even notice, from any one of Hunt's "campaigners".
Meanwhile, one of those campaigners has posted that he was preparing to go out punting their county candidate, Malcolm Hunter, in Haslemere and Hindhead. Problem is, the candidate is Malcolm Carter, not Hunter - and Hindhead is not in the Haslemere division, for Surrey CC.

Although the cynic in me suggests that preventing Hunt talk to voters may be a smart tactical move 😉

Regret to announce the death of Mona Adams, Lib Dem councillor for East Sheen ward, London borough of Richmond-upon-Thames. She was deputy Mayor until last week, and became the only ever non-Conservative to be elected in East Sheen ward in the history of the borough last year. I knew her well as we sang in a choir together. I was surprised she stood last year as I knew she was already very ill. Sad loss. Generous words from you for a political opponent, Barnaby. Thank you for seeing the wider picture, and others who read these forums might care to reflect on this.
