Yes, my wife confirms that Jobbik have transformed themselves enough in the last four years to make them potentially palatable as partners for most of the Left/Centre groups. They've toned down the bovver-boy type stuff and gone more for a modern conservative party image. (There's still plenty of pretty nasty people in the party, but the assumption is made that they would be sidelined if the party became part of a ruling coalition.) Meanwhile the hubris and authoritarianism of Fidesz has started to get on so many people's nerves that minds are being concentrated. The primary objective is to ensure that Fidesz gets less than two-thirds of seats in parliament (which gives it constitution-changing powers); that'll potentially require an 8 percentage-point fall in Fidesz's opinion-poll ratings during the next month, something that won't be achieved without opposition co-ordination. Fun story out of Eger, where Orbán compared his local candidate unfavourably with washing-machines: 444.hu/2018/02/27/orban-szavaival-alazzak-eger-utcain-szegeny-nyitrai-zsoltot

Maybe four?

Does anyone have a link to 'constituency' results from last time along with a map showing the constituencies?

You'd think that Hungarians would learn that this is a bad idea, given how Rakosi rose to power. Well, yes, there's clearly a risk in dealing with Jobbik. Fpr example, at the moment they might be appear to be as angry about the government's "Soros Plan" propaganda lies as everyone else, but it's hard to believe they wouldn't employ similar propaganda if they ever came to power. (Compare the attitude to AfD in Germany, who are still beyond the pale.) But it's symptomatic of the acute frustration and embarrassment among the political class that this bizarre realignment is taking place.

Amusingly, the elected representative for the area my late grandfather-in-law came from is called Nagy István, the same name as the Hungarian Two-tailed Dog Party used for its 'candidates' in the 2006 election.

What's the MSZP seat in the North East- Miskolc? Yes. The western, Diósgyőr half, home to the steelworks and lots of blocks of flats. MSZP just sneaked in here - MSZP, Fidesz and Jobbik all got 31%.

In raw vote terms: MSZP 14,798 Fidesz 14,560 Jobbik 14,425. So essentially a fluke result, by the looks of things.

That result demonstrates the traction that the Jobbik nationalists gained in the relatively poor NE of the country, akin to how Ukip was performing in the UK before the referendum. Their vote was 50% higher in Miskolc than in the country as a whole.

They have not-the boundaries for Hungary's SMCs are the same as in the 2014 election.

Whenever an independent candidate appears in a local by-election now, I will automatically think of them as a "Fuggetlen".

Of the 40 lists submitted for this Hungarian election: 22 have been confirmed as valid. The Family Party (CSP) list has been provisionally accepted as well. 3 have been provisionally rejected but may get accepted. 13 have been confirmed as invalid (most notably the Independent Small Freeholders Party's list). The SZP have withdrawn their list for unknown reasons.

Literally ending his campaign by screaming JEWS JEWS JEWS JEWS JEWS at a rally, to be followed by re-election at a canter. Pass the cyanide.

The 23 lists approved for this election: www.valasztas.hu/orszagos-listakNotable among the rejected lists include the Motherland Party (formerly the Homeland Not For Sale Movement), and the Independent Smallholders Party (a remnant of a once-powerful party).

Participation has been rising especially in Budapest and surrounding - no good news for Orban and JOBBIK.
