I'm sure that's what people said about the Labour guy in Bradford a few months ago

Clearly Labour will never win another by-election.

Given that labour have won this in every selection at least since 1945 (and probably before that), I suspect that yet another win is on the cards for them.
This seat is very different from Bradford West. Demographic is not the same, and George Galloway's poltiics would not resonate around Cardiff in the same way.
Plaid have had some strong performances in wales in by-elections in the past but Cardiff is one of their weakest areas in wales. Coming in 2nd would be a good achievement for them.

There have only been Mp's to the Cardiff South & Penarth seat one was the former Prime Minister Jim Callaghan & the other Alun Michael. Even it's predecessor seat Cardiff South was a Labour seat in the pre war Con-Lib coalition era it was Conservative but in 1929 was Labour. There are only 3 non Labour wards here 2 Tory & 1 Ukip no LibDem or Plaid. Labour have even started to make inroads in Penarth again so were pretty strong. Plaid will finish fourth or fifth behind Ukip.

You failed to mention Cardiff South East which was represented by Callaghan throughout its history from 1950 to 1983. In 1964, Callaghan was opposed by former England Cricket captain Ted Dexter.

I think most think that Labour will win, but there might be stronger showings than people think for other parties, The Tories and Lib Dems will do worse than the general election, UKIP and Plaid better - the rest no where.

Rosie Winterton has moved the writ for Cardiff South and Penarth in the House about two minutes ago.

On the basis of that video, if I lived there I'd be voting for Rob Griffiths.

On the basis of that video, if I lived there I'd be voting for Rob Griffiths. Rob is a nice guy... but if I still lived there I'd be voting Plaid - who really are working hard for every vote.

How much will Labour being in power in Cardiff effect their result?

Very difficult to say, their plans to build on greenfield sites are more likely to have an affect on their votes in the North and West than it will in Cardiff South and Penarth.

Was Penarth in the Barry constituency before 1983?
