Swale -Milton Regis - promises to be interesting. All four parties have worked hard.
Labour's candidate is Tony Winckless, former councillor 2011-15, lives in the ward and can be considered the favourite.
The Lib Dems have put up Tony Clark, a former councillor in Devon. A Lib Dem was a councillor in the ward for over 20 years until 2011.
The Conservative candidate is Kane Blackwell, 18 years old, who is a former member of the Youth Parliament.
UKIP are defending the seat with Richard Palmer, former parliamentary candidate who came second in Sittingbourne and Sheppey in 2015.
It's a double member ward - the other councillor is a Conservative. The ward was last fought on the day of the 2015 general election so turnout was much higher than usual and influenced by that day.
This time, as the voters go to the polls for the third time in three months, we are expecting a very low turnout.

A Council by election in August is very likely to have a low turnout but all 4 parties have really stretched themselves and we may see a slightly better turnout than predicted.

Sevenoaks:Penshust ,Fordscombe & Chiidingstone, is another Kent August election where I gather quite a lot of effort is being expended, with Conservative, Lib Dem and Labour candidates fight it out where again the last election is the somewhat misleading 2015 result , which was Con 790, Lib Dem 501, Green 191, no Labour candidate.

Loughborough Shelthorpe in Charnwood Borough looks like another neighbour war (didn't we have one of those last month?) as the Con candidate RV Ford lives at 108 Highland Drive Loughborough and his Lib Dem opponent A Guerrero(!) lives at no 110! Labour candidate RA Huddlestone also is in Loughborough but the UKIP candidate A McWilliam comes from Quorn. Maybe his fox has been shot?
2015 :Con 1653 &1208, Lab 1454 & 1294, Green 560 : 1 Con & 1 Lab elected 2011: Lab 1078 &998, Con 870& 832: Lab elected x2

Would be surprised if Labour fail to take Margate Central. I suspect that Penshurst may be slightly beyond us..... If you win Penshurst it is truly 'Game Over' for us.

I suppose they were going back to how it was before the rise and collapse of UKIP, but seriously I have to say I deplore misleading bar charts as much as anybody - not much use if they become risible anyway.

Well, provided the bar chart is to scale and dated it is a perfectly legitimate piece of information. It is up to other Parties to highlight data that suits them better, and if UKIP are not highlighting the 2015 result they have no clue at all! Voters see through such things however and unless either UKIP or the Lib Dems have an exceptional local candidate neither are not going to win here at the moment..

Shades of Siegfried Sassoon? thought that world died exactly 100 years ago? 'Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man'.............................Sigh!! I had a copy of those memoirs in my collection of great first world war books (much better in the war bits than the fox-hunting bits imo)- a collection including Goodbye to All That and All Quiet on the Western Front. They were all lost in my house fire in 1997 which took over 1000 volumes- the house was replaced by Seeboard whose mains cable was responsible, but the library was irreplaceable. Of course if you are nostalgic for the days of feudalism in deeply rural Kent you would expect the Steetfeilds of Chiddingstone Castle to come out on top, and Richard Streetfeild the current head of the Streetfeild family (I have to resist the temptation to miscorrect that spelling) is indeed the Lib Dem candidate again.

A note on the Worthing Marine by election today . This ward is next door to the one in which I live indeed the boundary runs down my road and the opposite side of Grand Avenue is in Marine ward . Labour have fielded their GE candidate Rebecca Cooper and have put in more effort than all the other parties together . Last Saturday they were out in force at the local parade of shops and I had a brief chat with the Labour candidate , a pleasant enough young woman who would probably make a decent councillor . Labour seem to have convinced themselves they can win this by election on the back of a good show at the G E . There are certainly wards that are now winnable for Labour in Worthing if the student vote turns out but Marine is not one of them so I expect Labour will get a decent result but be disappointed in it themselves . Strangely the only stakeboard/poster I have seen is a Lib Dem which is one more than seen for all parties at the recent GE .
