A slight surprise, perhaps? Looking forward to what she does now, it would never have been possible without Labour's late surge. In view of what happened both in NZ and here, the conventional wisdom of many political scientists that "campaigns don't matter" is going to have to be revised I think.Another conventional wisdom of many political scientists/commentariat that will certainly have to be revised is the line that the two-party system in this country was on a continuous and inevitable decline - see the New Statesman leader from 6 November 2014 as a good example. There is nothing that has made me happier politically that to see that cretinous claim blown out of the water. Is there any thread that cannot be diverted to your own very personal pet political priority?

Tbf cleggmania prevented cameron from achieving his maj Is Jacinda a socialist? She's certainly a republican, which is an essential requirement of being a socialist.

But the BES said before the campaign labour trailed the tories by 11 The BES said that the Conservatives were ahead of Labour by 14 points at the start of the campaign - Con 41%, Lab 27%, which was itself a bit lower than the national opinion polls at the time. Maybe the 11 point figure that you're thinking of is the Conservative lead at the local elections according to the PNV.

Well, though I am a supporter of the Labour Party, I do not consider myself a socialist because I am a staunch Monarchist. It's just my own opinion, but personally, I struggle to see how believing in a hereditary monarchy is compatible with a very important aim of socialism (the breaking down of class barriers) - maybe it is compatible for some socialists but as I say, I regard my support for the monarchy and Her Majesty as being a total blockage to me considering myself a socialist.

I think this is the point where, regardless of our views in general, we all gather together to laugh at Bill English.

And Labour got it. Jacinda Ardern will become Prime Minister. Amusing, considering the huge number of left AntiFas adorating Mrs.Ardern...

"Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop said she wouldn't be able to trust a NZ Labour government. That government is now a reality. The elevation of Jacinda Ardern to the New Zealand prime ministership has pundits predicting awkward times ahead for Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop. In the midst of the Barnaby Joyce citizenship crisis in August, Bishop declared she would "find it very difficult to build trust" with Ardern's Labour Party following revelations that a Australian Labor figure made contact with a NZ Labour MP. Ardern returned fire, calling Bishop's "false claims" were "highly regrettable"." www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/98074696/jacinda-ardern-as-prime-minister-makes-things-awkward-for-australian-foreign-minister
